Current report:  Klamath kicking into gear

The fishing season this year on the Klamath looks promising.  I've just started fishing the last couple weeks and we've been seeing fair to good action on steelhead and jacks.  There has been a lot of big salmon at the mouth averaging over 20 pounds.  These fish will be making there way up the river with the water that was just released out of the Trinity yesterday.  I figure fishing should really start taking off after the water from the release settles down a little.  I still have plenty of dates in September so give me a call at 707 954 1004 to book a trip.

Thanks, Gary Hix

Date:  May 29th 2008                                                                                                         Current report:  Klamath River Spring Salmon

Memorial day weekend turned out to be good fishing for springers on the Klamath.  The river has finally dropped into prime shape and the month of June should be the bulk of the spring salmon run on the Klamath.  I have plenty of dates available for anyone intersted in catching these fish.  The current bag limit is two fish per person and I've never tasted better salmon than Klamath River springers.  Call now to set up your trip.(707)954-1004.

Thanks,  Gary Hix

Date:  April 13th                                                                                                         Current report:  Sacramento River Stripers & Klamath Springers

I can't hardly believe it but my 28th birthday is on Friday.  It seems like yesterday when I hooked that 1st chrome summer steelhead on the Deschutes 13 years ago.  I'll be looking to create some more magical memories at the end of the week on the Sacramento River for stripers.  The Klamath River has already produced a few springers for some very lucky anglers.  These are a very special strain of fish on the river.  The fighting capabilities of these fish and  their quality of meat are unsurpassed on California rivers.  Look for this fishery to really take off in 2-3 weeks.  As an added note the Klamath River will be the only show in California as far as Salmon fishing goes this year so I would highly recommend booking your guide for fall salmon fishing in a hurry.  The unnofficial word as of now is that the Klamath should see a large run of four year old fish and have a sport fishing quota of 22,000 chinook.  That's a lot of fish!  Do yourself a favor and secure yourself a good date with a good guide and make sure your accommodations are taken care of early if you want to stay in Klamath!   And also remember that many Sacramento River guides that are not familiar with the Klamath will be moving their operation to the Klamath since they will be shut down.????????!!!!!!!!!!!!  Do yourself a favor and go with someone that legitimately and intimately knows the river.  Since I was a kid I have logged in excess of 1000 long days of prime time fishing on the Klamath.  I've pridefully considered the Klamath River my home water since I moved to the area when I was 18 years old with the sole purpose of being closer to the Klamath and its steelhead.  Since I got my powerboat in 2004 I've literally lived on the river during fishing season. I can assure you that I know the river from top to bottom, every rock, and most importantly all the places that the fish live.  If you want to fish the Klamath River with a serious guide that has real passion for this river give me a call.  I already know where my ashes will be spread on the Klamath.  Let me take you there and you'll understand why.

Screamin' reels forever, Gary

Date:  March 23rd-April 3rd:                                                                                     Current report:  Epic fishing to close the season!

Fishing finally turned around and was awesome at the end of the season.  For the most part I was fun fishing with family & friends on the upper Chetco and it was killer.  I've also continued fishing into April and I found a pile of chrome steelhead.  If you want to catch these fish don't delay because they won't be around for very long.  Thanks, Gary Hix

Scott Gray sporting a beautiful Eel River hen, March 22nd

Date:  March 17th-22nd;  Current Report:  Eel River and options for extending your steelhead season into April

Today I struggled to catch fish.  The section of river that has given me the best results this year is ultra low and clear and its probably a major challenge just to get a drift boat down it.  Today I had to adapt to a different piece of river that I haven't fished all year long.  The color was near perfect however it seemed too big and pushy.  When the river drops all of the runs become well defined and just plain fish better.  The river will be getting into better and better shape throughout the rest of the season.  And for all of you doubters, I've had some phenomenal steelhead fishing in April.  I keep a tight lip on where I'll be fishing since I have it virtually all to myself.  If this sounds appealing to you give me a call.  I also have the 29th, 30th and 31st open if anyone is still itchin' to catch steelies.

Current Report:  Washington trip, Smith river , Eel River, Trinity River, Klamath River

Washington is a steelhead paradise.  There are a bunch of great rivers very close to each other that all hold monster steelhead.  It looks like I am going to be going straight back up to get another chance at the fish of a lifetime.  Today I spoke with my guide friends and from what I hear the eel is still fishing good.  The Smith surprisingly is kicking out a few fish ever since the Raider derby.  The Trinity is also still fishing and look for the Klamath to be a good place to fish in the near future.

Thanks,

Gary Hix

Dan and Joe Hager with Dan's 1st steelhead

Date:  March 5th-7th                                                                                                      Current Report:  Trinity, Smith, Eel

Yesterday I fished the Trinity with Dan and Joe Hager. When I spoke with Joe I told him that I have been doing well on the Eel and I told him that is where we would be fishing.  Unfortunately he told me that keeping fish was the priority for the trip.  Given that we ruled out the Smith due to poor fishing and went to the Trinity which was marginal due to very high water.  However we were able to hook six fish including one nice bright hatchery keeper that put a big smile on Dan's face.  I will be heading to Forks, Washington for monster later winter run steelhead all next week.  When I get back I'll be sure to show off some of the fish.  When I get back I still have some openings available and if it doesn't rain I'm sure that I'll be on some good fishing the rest of the season if it doesn't rain too much.  Call now to set up your trip (707)954-1004.

Thanks,

Gary Hix

Date: March 2nd -4th                                                                                                    Current Report:  Eel River

The last three days have been awesome.  On Sunday we went 3 for 4 and had a couple other really good grabs. The water just didn't seem quite right but Jaime did catch his 1st steelie!  The other boat I had working got 11 and 15 pound chromers.  On Monday I did a different drift and we found the fish right off the bat.  We had ten before noon and missed many others.  It was every pass for the whole morning.  However that was it. If were able to stay on the fish all day we could have had a truly unbelievable day but we had a lot of river to go.  Today I didn't have a trip and the I went bank fishing in the evening and caught a big chrome buck I estimated at 18 pounds.  The last 3 days I have been seeing a lot of fresh fish which is a great sign for the rest of the season.  If anyone is interested in getting in on this great fishing I still have plenty of dates available after March 16th.  Call now to set up your trip 707 954-1004.

Thanks,

Gary Hix

Jaime's 1st steelie!

Matt's 2nd steelie!

Date:  Saturday March 1st                                                                          Current Report:  Eel River

Today I was on the Eel with Matt and Jaime and we ended going 2 for 3.  I also had another boat working for me that got 3 as well.  Every fish that I heard of today were downstreamers but they were fun catchin'.   I thought we were in for a great day when Matt caught 2 in 2 casts in our 2nd spot.  We didn't get another one until about 10 am and that was it.  We pulled out and tried a different stretch of river that didn't have as much boat pressure but we couldn't find fish.  I told my guys that tomorrow we can't afford to be late again because there was about 15 boats on the same water and we had way too much competition.  I'm looking forward to fishing tomorrow now that Matt and Jaime have the hang of things, not to mention that I still need to put Jaime on a fish.

Date:  Thursday  February 28 2008                                                                       Current Report:  Winter steelhead season rundown

This season has been by far and away the toughest steelhead fishing that I've ever seen.  Particularly the Smith River has been brutal.  Last year I had a day where I hooked 15 chrome bright Smith fish in one day.  This year it took me a couple weeks to find my first 15 hookups.  The Chetco overall fished better than the Smith but it has been poor considering what is caught there most years.  The highlight of my winter steelhead season this year was the week I spent on the Eel River before and during President's day weekend.  My best day we hooked 13 fish.  However the fishing pressure quickly got out of hand and our scores plummeted to 1-4 fish per day.  Right now I'm packing up and heading back down to the Eel.  I predict that the fishing should be really good at least for a week or so because it is just barely coming into shape.  I still have Monday and Tuesday(3rd and 4th) open if anyone is interested.  Finally I would like to apologize for not keeping up on my reports.  This has been such a tough season for me taking on Tim King's business because the fishing hasn't been even close to what I'm accustomed to.  I thought it would be easy coming home to write about the great fishing that I've had every day, but the numbers never materialized.  I kept trying to put off my report until I had some banner days thinking that was best but fishing never got good and I just kept procrastinating.  Believe me it feels good to finally write a report and get the ball rolling again.  Now I realize that I'm better off consistently writing a report no matter what the fishing is like.  At least people will recognize that I'm still fishing and will be able to get an honest report whether it be good, bad, or ugly.  So from now on I'll be doing my best to let you know on a consistent basis how many fish I'm catching- so be sure to stay tuned.  Call now to set up your trip 707 954 1004.  Once again I still have March 3rd and 4th open which should be prime time on the Eel.

Thanks,

Gary Hix

Today I fished again with Steve and Gina and it was awesome.  We didn't find a bunch of fish right off the bat but we got into a run upriver that was loaded.  We had a bunch of doubles and even a triple.  We ended up hooking around 20 fish, many of them still had sea lice and they are spunky.  It's great to be in the fish.  Call now to set up your trip  (707)954-1004.  Thanks, Gary Hix-  King's Guide Service

Current Report:  Klamath

Yesterday morning the mouth of the Klamath blew out and within a few hours thousands of fish poured into the lower river.  I went fishing with a buddy in the evening and we had fish rolling around us everywhere nonstop.  We ended up hooking around 30 fish in just a few hours.  Today I fished with Steve Lira and his wife Gina from Gilroy and we killed 'em.  It seemed like they both had fish on every drift for hours this morning.  I honestly lost track of how many we hooked but it had to have been close to 30.  This is by far the best fishing we've seen this year.  I still have some open dates coming up and the fishing is hot.  Call now to set up your trip  (707)954-1004.  Thanks, Gary Hix-  King's Guide Service

Current Report:  Klamath,  Trinity

Once again I apologize for not posting reports and I appreciate everyone's concern but I am doing fine.  Here's the rundown on the fishing.  Fishing finally got pretty good on the 26th and has stayed consistent since then.  On the days that I've fished we've been hooking between 8 to 15 fish.  Most of the fish have been cookie cutters in the 10lb. range but we have have gotten a few over 20 lbs.  Last night I heard that the fish are spread out through the Trinity and that fishing has been good.  Call now to set up your trip  (707)954-1004.  Thanks, Gary Hix-  King's Guide Service

Current Report:  Klamath.

I apologize for not posting reports but the fishing was so poor for a long stretch that I had nothing good to say.  Finally the fish are coming full force.  The last two days there have been salmon coming into the lower river in big numbers.  It went from working hard all day to hook a few fish to getting limits overnight.  The fishing should be really good from here on out.  Call now to set up your trip (707)954-1004.  Thanks, Gary Hix -King's Guide Service

Current Report:  Klamath

I fished on Tuesday with a group of two from Santa Barbara and the fishing was downright poor.  All that we were able to find was about 10 half pounders.  It was very discouraging to not be able to produce some nice adult fish for my customers.  However, the guides have all been struggling this week.  The good news is that our water finally made it down here yesterday.  I'm expecting to see some good fishing when this water settles down this weekend.  I also got cancelled on for the 1st and 2nd if anyone is interested in fishing.  Call now to set up your Klamath trip (707)945-1004.  Thanks, Gary Hix -  King's Guide Service

Current Report:  Klamath

I've been fishing the last two days with a group of four from Tuolumne.  I thought that we did well for the conditions on Friday.  We ended up hooking around 15 adult steelhead and a bunch of half pounders.  Today ended being a whole lot tougher.  We fished a half day and hooked four nice steelhead.  The river was really crowded today and it seemed like there was someone in every spot that I wanted to fish.  I'm not sure if they just weren't biting good today but I really think that the pressure on the fish had a lot to do with it.  Once our water gets here there will be plenty of fish to handle the pressure.  Call now to set up your Klamath trip (707) 954-1004.  Thanks, Gary Hix - Kings Guide Service

Current Report:  Klamath

Today I was on the water with Clay and his son Elliot from the bay area.  The morning bite was on and we hooked 4 adult steelhead and a bunch of half pounders at our first stop.  The rest of the day got tough as we ran way upriver and were only able to pick away at four more adult steelhead.  I just heard the water release on the Trinity is going to happen Saturday  and the water should reach the Lower Klamath by Monday.  Be prepared for some amazing fishing once we get the water.  Call now to set up your Klamath trip.  Thanks Kings Guide Service

Current Report:  Klamath

Well it proved to be tough fishing for us on Thursday.  We didn't put until after the other guides and it felt like all the good water was kind of pounded.  Anyways we fished hard for four nice adult steelhead.  Friday was a complete turnaround.  I fished a group of three from Southern Cal and our first 12 drifts of the day we hooked up every time.  We ended up hooking over 15 adult steelhead 1 adult salmon and a bunch of half pounders.  Next week the fishing should only improve. Call now to set up your Klamath trip.  Thanks Kings Guide Service.

Date:  Wednesday  August 15  2007
Current Report:  Klamath

Fishing on the Klamath has been a little tougher the past couple days.  There has been considerably more fishing pressure and the fish have just seemed a little bit more wise to the game.  On Tuesday I had two anglers and we hooked seven adult steelhead and maybe 10 half pounders.  Today I just fished the evening with my brother and his wife for a few hours in the evening and we hooked five nice adult steelhead.  We'll be back at it in the morning the morning and I'm expecting to have better fishing.  Call now to set up your Klamath trip.  Thanks Kings guide service.

Date:  Monday  August 13  2007
Current Report:  Klamath

Fishing was good on the Klamath at the end of last week.  On Thursday I had a group of three and we hooked over 20 adult steelhead and one nice salmon about 25 pounds.  I heard that fishing over the weekend was excellent as well.  This week looks like it could be a good one.  Call now to set up your Klamath trip.  Thanks Kings Guide Service.

Date:  Tuesday  August 7  2007
Current Report:  Klamath

Fishing on the Klamath has been pretty slow the past week with the warm water temperatures staying above seventy degrees.  What we need is for the weather to cool off inland to get our water to get back down in the sixties.  When this happens the steelhead fishing will take off.  Usually the second week of August is really good steelhead fishing.  I'll be fishing the river later this week and I'm hoping to have some good fish stories to tell.  Call now to set up your Klamath trip.  Thanks Kings Guide Service.

Date:  Thursday  July 26  2007
Current Report:   Sacramento Trinity Klamath

The salmon fishing on the Sacramento on the opener was mediocre but the trout fishing remains good.  On the Trinity the salmon fishing has really slowed down and the run seems to be just about done.  With the rain last week the Klamath cooled down to 68 degrees and triggered the steelhead to move upriver.  Fishing for steelhead has been pretty good for anglers using bait, hardware, and flies.  Call now to set up your Klamath trip, the fishing is already heating up.  Thanks Kings Guide Service

The fishing remains about the same on all the rivers. There are some salmon being caught on the Trinity along with a few summer run steelhead. Fish from the north fork up to Lewiston the water temperatures' are to high down below to hold any fish. The Sacramento continues to be the bright spot with great trout action. The Klamath has fresh salmon and steelhead swimming down in the estuary for those of you that like to troll you can have some really good days their. The best fishing of the season is just around the corner on the Klamath . Call now to set up your trip. Thanks Kings guide service.

Weir counts for the Trinity river as you can see the big push of fish was the week of July 2 the counts will probably start to drop off now. This is not the total number of fish just a percentage of them. Its time to call to book your salmon and steelhead trips on the Klamath.

The fishing over the weekend on the Trinity remained about the same. A couple of fish per boat and a steelhead or two on some runs. Just not big numbers of fish but a few here and there. The Sacramento continues to be the hot ticket with 30 to 40 fish days. The Klamath is still giving up some nice fish down at the mouth and is dead slow up river with the hot water temperatures. Its  time to call or email and get your dates booked for the fall run of Salmon on the Klamath and the Trinity. Thanks kings guide service

Salmon fishing on the Trinity Is picking back up. We fished another day on the Sacramento and same story just a ton of fish to catch we landed over 30 drifting Sunday we fished the Trinity and had our limits of adults. The lower Klamath has kicked it into gear down in the estuary the jet boats trolling spinners are whacking them good give us a call to get in on the good fishing. Thanks Kings guide service

Current Report:   Sacramento Trinity Klamath

Salmon fishing on the Trinity was slow the last few days. We managed to put a couple in the boat after some hard fishing. We switched over to the Sacramento the last two days and we landed over 40 fish both days and lost another 20.I think the salmon fishing will come back in on the Trinity in a couple of days. The counts at the weir are increasing every day and as more fish arrive our numbers will go up. There are a few summer steelhead around too that are great fish to fight. So take your choice the Sacramento or the Trinity. Thanks Kings guide service.

Salmon fishing on the Trinity is decent from Junction City to Douglas City.  Most boats are hooking 2-3 fish averaging 8-15lbs when pulling Kwikfish and back bouncing roe.  The bite on the lower Klamath has been slow but is still producing springers and the occasional steelhead.  Thanks Kings Guide Service

The salmon fishing was a little tough the best bite is early in the morning. We had two grabs on plugs  and we stuck one of them. The counts are not very impressive coming through the weir but its still early. I heard that the fishing picked up on the lower Klamath for a couple of days but it is very inconsistent.  Thanks Kings guide service

The salmon fishing is starting to pickup on the Trinity. The fish have started to hole up in some of the holes in the sections above Junction city. Good fishing can also be had down in Burnt ranch and grays falls this time of year .. Kwickfish spinners and back bounced roe are the hot ticket to hook these Springer's as they make there way up river. Thanks Kings guide service

We are back from our vacation in Idaho . Look for our reports to be more timely. The spring fishing for salmon has been pretty slow on the Klamath the fish are just starting to show on the Trinity and we will be out this coming weekend to see how many numbers of fish are here. The action down at burnt ranch falls has been decent so we know that the fish are on there way. Thanks Kings guide service

The Trinity is running at about 5000cfs as they flush out the river and send the smolts out to the ocean. Its a good time to start thinking about salmon fishing. The spring run on the Klamath will be starting soon followed by the Trinity. These high  flows will help signal the fish to start there runs up river. Thanks Kings guide service

Striper fishing is going good. Most days limits of fish are being caught in the 10 pound range there are a lot of shakers around and a few bigger fish. The water is in great shape and is really clear for this time of year. Drifting minnows still has been the consistent way to get your limits of fish. We have a few opening over the next few weeks give us a call to set up your trip. Thanks Kings guide service

The Smith is in great shape most of the fish are down runners and a few fresh ones and bluebacks mixed in. The season for steelhead closes March 31. The Trinity hatchery will be releasing the smolts soon and this can be a great time to go fly fishing for these small fish its all catch and release. Striper season is just around the corner and the Sacramento river rainbows will be on the spring bite soon. We should start to see some spring salmon moving up the Klamath during April May and June. We are scheduled to fish the lower trinity for the weekend but the water level is to high. The Smith has another derby scheduled for this weekend and will be very crowded . The fishing should be good right up to the end of March. Thanks Tim King

The big storm is coming in tonight and the river will be out for a few days we need it to be below 15 feet for good fishing. The Smith is still in it all depends on how much rain falls on Thursday  it will be the first river to come back in for fishing. The derby is this weekend and hopefully it will be fishing good.   There really has not been much to talk about. The fishing is still slow on all the rivers. We fished the Klamath the last 4 days and it to is very slow. With no fish moving through the Klamath the Trinity has slowed down too and the Smith looks more like a creek than a river with a few fish being caught. The good news is rain is on the way  and the fishing should pick back up soon. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:   Smith Trinity Klamath

We are still healing up my shoulder and I think I will be back fishing this weekend. The Smith is way low guides are seeing 0 to 3 fish per trip. I don't know how the lower Trinity is doing Alan and Kevin have been out fishing but I haven't talked to them in a few days. The Eel is low and clear also and the numbers of fish caught is on the decline. Most of the guides that have Jet boats are switching over to the Klamath. We were one of the first to try it a few weeks ago but the water temps way to cold. Wally Joe Billy all have there jet boats on the river. We are going to do the same until we get some rain. The steelhead lodge is open for lodging and the restaurant will be open on weekends. We may get some rain next week it has been one of the driest winters on record. As part of the agreement for the dams on the Klamath they are going to require fish ladders which will cost about 300 million its about the same to take them out . Thanks Tim King

The fishing on the Trinity remained good for us until Friday. On Friday I dislocated my shoulder and have been forced to take a few days off . The Smith is low and clear and has been giving up a few fish. The eel continues to fish down on the main stem. All the rivers are in need of rain. It looks like we are in for another dry week and I will be back on the water as soon as possible . Thanks Tim King

We have been fishing the Trinity the last 4 days and the fishing is unbelievable. On a slow day we put 10 adult steelhead in the boat with a few half ponders our best day was 14 for 17 plus a bunch of half pounders. The fish are running from 8 to 12 pounds and we did catch one bigger fish around 15 pounds. All the clients I had swear they will never fish a different river again Its a combination of low rain totals and run timing that is making the fishing so good. The Smith is fishing good as is the Eel we really are in need of some rain to bring the rivers back up. I am planning on staying on the Trinity until we get some rain or these fish push up the south fork. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:   Smith

Last Saturday we fished the Klamath Sunday through Tuesday we fished the Smith. The fishing has been really good. The last two days I had two boats on the river. We have been getting 4 or 5 fish in the boat every trip and losing a few more. The problem with the Smith is that it is low and clear and I think it is on the brink of turning off. There are still a lot of fish in the river we will just have to wait and see. There are a lot of other options now available the Klamath is in the main stem Eel is in and the lower Trinity Mattole and the Van Duzzen all are fishing great and giving up bigger numbers of fish than the Smith. We will be switching to some other river until we get some rain. There still is no rain in the forecast for the coming week. Thanks Tim King

The good fishing continues on the Smith. Today was my second day with the girls from La and they did a little better today we hooked 4 and landed 2. We did one drift from the forks to ruby and took our time. They took about a 1/2 hour walk through Jed Smith to look at the redwoods and take a few pictures of the trees it was really laid back compared to most of my trips where we are always in rush to catch fish. The river is still in good shape i would like to see a little rain in the next few days to bring the level back up and put a little more color in it. The boat pressure is way down with a lot of the guides going to the Chetco where they can use there motors. Thanks Tim King. Open dates January 13, 24,25

The smith is down to the 10 foot range and is fishing great. The forecast calls for just a little rain on Wednesday and showers on Thursday. Just what we need to hold the river at a nice height. Today I had two ladies from southern calif on vacation It was one of my most relaxing trips I have had all year. They just wanted to float the river and do a little fishing and that's what we did. We landed two nice steelhead both of which we hooked in really fast water where the fish pretty much just hammer it. The river could not be in better shape the whole thing is now fishing from the forks to Ruby. Open dates in January 13 24 25 Thanks Tim King

The smith started the day at 12.2 and when we ended it was 11.5. The fishing really improved today. We saw lots of fish caught from boats and from the bank. There was a lot of pressure on the river with the Chetco still out. I was surprised at  how well everybody did  there must just be a ton of fish in the river. We where 4 for 5 today and we had quite a few bites that we missed. We lost a really big fish at Jed smith and we did a double hook up at pink rock Val  Early was fishing the guys from Willie boats and they had 4. Mark Wakeman  might have been top boat today I think they hooked 8 fish Brice had a couple we saw  Frankie hook up and Mick Thomas landed one in Jed Smith people where landing fish just about everywhere some days you get um some days you don't.  Open days in my boat January 17 18 24 25 Thanks Tim King

The smith started out around 11.6 and was on a slow rise all day to 12.6. The rain was on and off all day and never was very heavy. The fishing was pretty good today for most boats scores ranged from 0 to 5 fish per boat with most boats having 2 or more. I had some first time fishermen and after we got a few kinks worked out we got 2 nice fish we lost a nice one. The river should be on the drop tomorrow and the fishing should improve as it gets smaller. Open days in my boat January 17 18 24 25Thanks Tim King

Current Report: A sad day on the   Smith

Today we had a tragic thing happen on the Smith a guide boat sunk and never came back up . Our prayers are with his family. I am not sure how experienced he was I did not know him . The river can be a very dangerous place if you don't know how to navigate this river. Today the river was at 12 feet a very fishable level yet there are two or three  hazardous sections at this height you simply have to pass around them. When the river gets low there are hazards also more rocks are showing and you have to pick your way down the river. If your a private boater make sure you know how to control your boat very well and know which way to go down the different sets of rapids at all river heights it changes daily. The first thing i do before i launch my boat is check the river height this lets me know which rocks will be showing or hiding just under the surface of the water and how the rapids will be and what line to take through them. You cant have to much  experience  on a river. On most of our trips we launch our boats in the dark to get down to the first fishing hole the other day the river was at a level that i had not seen this year so we waited till we had good visability to go down. Be safe and don't take chances it can cost you your life. This river is one of the safest places to go fishing when you take the right precautions.  Yesterday the river was pretty high a few boats went out plunking and didn't do to good. Today the river was at 12.6 and was driftable. Boat scores ran from 0 to two fish from the boats that I was fishing around. We landed 2 and kept 1 hatchery female about 12 pounds. Brice had 4 and Pete had one  fish to clean at the take out that I saw . The river will start to fish better over the next few days as the river drops. open days January 17 18 24 25 in my boat Thanks Tim King

The Smith has been fishing really good the last 3 days. We really struggled one day and got a zero but anyone who has fished this river a lot knows it can humble you really fast just when you think you have it all figured out. Today it was on the rise and was on its way to being blown out at about 11:00 am. We got one nice fish around 8:00 am a nice buck about 14 pounds and that was it for the day. I have January 17, 18, 24, 25 open.   Thanks Tim King

Current Report:    Smith

The Smith has dropped in to the 10 foot range and is perfect shape. The weather looks good for the next few days with rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday and by that time we will need it. We hooked two today and landed one it was a nice wild buck about 14 pounds. The chetco should start to fish on Sunday and the boat traffic should be a lot lighter for this week. On the Smith. Last year we high a lot of really high water and a lot of the steelhead made it safely up to spawn and back out to the ocean. We are already seeing some bigger fish caught this year two fish over 26 pounds have been weighed in at the store in Hiouchi in the last two days. We could see the state record broke this year on the smith and a lot of bigger fish in the 20 pound range caught. I have a few day open still in January give us a call to get your chance at one of these monster steelhead. Thanks Tim King

The Smith was slow today for most boats on the river I really thought it would fish better than it did. My boat faired pretty good we got two nice steelhead. One around 15 and one around 12. Frankie had one over 20 pounds the first 20 for the season that I know of. There was very high boat traffic today with the Chetco being still to high to fish. The river started out at 12.2 and when we took out it was around 11.8 . The fishing should be better tomorrow as the river continues to drop. I will have the pictures up on Sunday. Thanks Tim King

We have been on the Smith the last 2 days and the steelhead fishing is pretty good. We started out salmon fishing but quickly switched over to steelhead after we hooked our first fish at the covered bridge we got our second one at the outhouse and our third just below the stump hole all the fish where good size over 10 pounds and up. We did back bounce bait in a few holes looking for salmon but we didn't have any bites. Over the next few weeks i have a few days booked on the Trinity and the Smith but my reports wont be updated every day. Starting on December  27 I will be fishing almost straight through into March for steelhead on all the north coast rivers. Call now to get the best availability of dates. Thanks Tim King

The fishing is getting a little better on the  Smith and the the river is in perfect shape. The fish have been hitting plugs and back bounced roe. A few more steelhead have been caught this week and over on the Chetco some nice steelhead are starting to come in. The Trinity has been in a cold snap and the bite is a little slow its should turn back on as the weather warms back up. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:    Smith Trinity

The Smith is back on the drop after rising up on Sunday its still pretty big but defiantly fishable. There is no rain in the forecast for this week. With the higher flows the fish have been really spread out and scores have been a little slow things should pick up this week as the river goes down. The steelhead are starting to show and we now will be fishing for both species on our trips. The upper Trinity received mostly snow and is in good shape the slow melt will help stabilize the flows. The lower river is still on the rise as the water makes it way towards the Klamath the lower trinity should be fishable by Tuesday or Wednesday. Its time to book those steelhead trips have a great week. Thanks Tim King

The fishing was slow for us today on the Smith. The river was in great shape and the color was a nice shade of green. We had our rod flatten out one time and it didn't stick that was all we had for the day. Most boats we talked to had the same story and few had one fish. There is rain forecast for Sunday and into Monday morning. but probable not enough to hurt the river and it should help out on the Trinity. Thanks Tim King

The Smith has been pretty high the last few days and is now on the drop after a pretty significant rise  we are headed over there tomorrow. Current Report:    Smith Trinity

We have been on the Trinity the last few days and the fishing really is not that good. The fish that are here have been here and have been pounded to death by the high traffic of boats and bank anglers. The lower river is pretty un crowded but we need some good amount of rain to bring fresh fish in from the ocean before it really gets going again. The Smith has been the best bet for numbers of fish the salmon have been coming in with each rise in the river and the bite stays good for a couple of days. The smith handles the boat pressure a lot better than the Trinity. Thanks Tim King

The fishing on the Smith was slower on Sunday there where a few nice fish caught. Gary Farley landed a 45 pound chromer. We have more rain in the forecast for this week which should help to keep things going. I will be fishing a few different rivers this week we have a couple of days of steelhead fishing on the lower Trinity and we might be on the Smith if this weather system holds to together. Thanks Tim King l

We landed 3 fish today and lost 1 . The bite was a little slower than yesterday the river was pretty dirty today the first good rain was washing all the leaves and dirt down the river. Two of the fish hit the scales at about 25 to 30 pounds  This is just the beginning of salmon season on the smith the fish should be coming in for the next 4  to 6 weeks depending on the weather conditions, Thanks Tim King

It has been raining on and off for the last two days most of which has been soaking into the ground. The Smith has seen a slight rise and the fishing could be good this weekend down in the estuary. The upper Trinity continues to produce some nice steelhead its still really low and clear and very crowded. Nobody is fishing on the lower Klamath but I would expect that there are a few fish around. We are still holding off on fishing waiting for better numbers of fish. Lindsey here is one of your fish pictures from the Klamath Thanks Tim King

Current Report:    Smith

We have 3 days of rain forecast for the rest of this week. The fishing has slowed to crawl on the Klamath and a few fish are being caught on the lower Trinity. The upper Trinity has pretty good numbers of steelhead and lots of fishing pressure and very low water conditions this rain should help out. The salmon are now spawning and are pretty dark its all over. We are taking a few days off to see what happens on the Smith if we get enough rain this could be the start of salmon season. These are the biggest fish we catch all year and the last chance at a salmon this year. Steelhead should start to show up soon usually sometime in December. Thanks Tim King

I cant get over the size of these fish the smallest fish we landed was about 6lbs and the biggest around 10 we lost quite a few as they just go ballistic and spit the plugs or bait as they jump way  up in the air. We will be back on the Klamath for the rest of the week fishing for salmon and steelhead. Thanks Tim King

We hooked our first and biggest fish on our fourth drift in starwein it drug us back down river and we landed it just above blakes in was a chrome bright 40 pounder.  We worked our way up river and got into some nice fish above Johnson's where we hooked another 40 pounder mix in a few 20 pound fish and some nice jacks and we had a pretty good day. The weather was picture perfect and the river is in great shape. We are going to fish here tomorrow and be back on the Trinity Monday morning. Thanks Tim King

A lot better today we had fish in the boat on the first run with our plugs in the morning. We continued to do good for most of the day. There are a lot of fish moving through the Trinity to there spawning grounds and hopefully the fishing will remain good into November. Thanks Tim King

It had to happen sooner or later. Today we scored a zero we didn't land any adult fish. We caught  a few half pounders  but they don't count. We pulled pugs tossed roe side drifted back bounced and we did not get a bite that I saw. These days just drive me crazy. We saw lots of fish which are mostly slivers and a few steelhead in the tail outs. There you have it we don't catch fish on every trip and today was that day. Tomorrow I will be on a different run and my  clients  will do better. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:      Trinity

Fishing on the lower Trinity remains good. We didn't kill them today but we landed 3 nice steelhead and 3 adult salmon to about 18 pounds. The boat pressure was really light today we were the only boat on our drift all day. The weather is supposed to be nice for the rest of the week. Its pretty chilly in the mornings and heats up around 10 am each day . The river is now at its lowest point for the year they have cut the flow back to 300 cfs at the dam most of the fish will wait for some higher water to head up stream and the salmon will start to dig there reds in the tailouts . Thanks Tim King

Current Report:      Trinity

Fishing on the lower Trinity was good on Saturday I had two boats on the river. My boat landed 10 for 15 and the second boat was 12 for 14. On Sunday it was a different story doing the same drift as before we struggled all day only landing a couple of fish. Kevin did manage to land his biggest salmon ever. We hooked into a huge male of about 35 pounds drifting bait it took us 30 minutes to land it on 8lb test . The water flows are really low  right now in the upper river we will continue to work the lower river until all the fish push up. The Klamath still fished good over the weekend there are only a few boats out working and they averaged about 15 fish per boat. We did get a little rain on Sunday from the smith down into Weaverville but it really wasn't much more than enough to wet the ground. Thanks Tim King

The fishing is still good on the lower Klamath we have been landing around 10 to 15 fish per trip this week. The size of the fish are getting a lot bigger we had a few pushing 25 to 30 pounds. The steelhead fishing is also good. We will be on the Trinity this week and back on the Klamath for the weekend to close out our salmon season here. Thanks Tim King

The bite today was a little better. There was a bunch of new fish that came in overnight and the lower runs where fishing good in the morning. Starwein and Cleveland have still been the hot spots to get your jacks and some nice steelhead. We have been running way up river in the afternoon and getting a few of the bigger fish in the deeper holes above holly rock and Jimmie co. There is also some really good steelhead water up there. We are going to finish out the week on the Lower Klamath then head over to the Trinity for a couple of weeks. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:       Klamath Trinity

For the first time since late August we didn't hook over 20 salmon. The high water finally hit the lower Klamath and the bite was just a little off today. We still had a good day off fishing. Lonnie and Stephanie landed a bunch of jacks and some nice adult salmon to about 18 pounds. This was Stephanie's first salmon trip and she was the hot fisherman of the day. She is ready to sell the ski boat and do more fishing. We will have to wait for a couple of days to see if the fishing is legitimately slowing down or if the higher water just put the fish off the bite. Thanks Tim King

The Klamath is still going strong. We had the day off today and I talked with Alan's guide service and he had a pretty good day hooking 27 fish and some nice steelhead. Little ray also had a pretty good day. Lots of fish still to catch in this river its not over yet. The Smith is starting to see a wee bit more action down in the estuary for salmon and the Trinity is putting out some good numbers of fish. The bor is starting to drop the flows on the Trinity side starting October 15 the upper river will be very difficult to drift with out dragging your boat in a lot of places. Lots of places to fish this time of year and the fishing is really good. Thanks Tim King

Its hard to keep reporting the same thing but the fishing is still great I had two anglers on my boat the last few days and the fishing is still the same . A ton of jacks some really nice adult salmon to 20 pounds and a few steelhead. I got some more good reports back from the Trinity things are fantastic there also.  For you ocean fishing guys there is a 12 day window where the fishing is open and the bite has been pretty good at the mouth of the Chetco river in southern Oregon bring your boat up and get out there. Thanks Tim King

Still fantastic fishing on the Klamath and Trinity rivers. We fished the Klamath today in my boat and we hammered them again today. We caught a really nice steelhead on our first drift  and it never let up all day. We had a ton of jacks 6 adults and 2 hatchery steelhead. On the Trinity side the fishing is just as good My guys had a great day they landed 7 adult steelhead and a ton of salmon. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:       Klamath Trinity

A bunch of fresh fish pushed in last night and the bite was really on all day today. We caught fish everywhere we fished. Our only method fishing all year has been side drifting roe and a fish pill. I had two kids on board who had never fished before and they out fished the adults it was a great day on the river. The weather is changing and the days are getting cooler which makes the fish fight harder. There seems to be more steelhead in the river as the water temps are cooling down. Over on the Trinity side the fishing is going great down on the lower river. Double digit scores of salmon and steelhead have been coming in for the guys drifting down below the south fork. The fishing there should be good into November for salmon and steelhead. There also has been some nice salmon starting to show on the Smith down in the estuary the fishing there will break wide open on the first good rain . Now is the time to call to book your trips for any of these rivers. Thanks Tim King

Still going strong. When you can hook 30 plus salmon in a day and land over 20 its great fishing. The Klamath is like the energizer bunny its just not slowing down and with more boats dropping off the river the pressure is really light. We caught another one of those big steelhead today these fish are huge for this time of year. We had our limit of jacks and we released some really nice adults. We still have some open dates here before we head to the Trinity and Sacramento rivers. Thanks Tim King

The fishing the last few days has been about the same.  We still are catching huge numbers of fish lots of jacks about 10 adults and some really nice steelhead . The Coho salmon are just starting to show in good numbers  and if you get one of them you can have a Klamath grand slam. The weather is a little cool in the mornings but stills warms up nicely by mid day. I still have a few open dates before we head to the Sacramento and Trinity rivers. The steelhead fishing on the lower Trinity is really hot right now and the salmon fishing is good too the numbers of fish from willow creek down to the mouth of the Klamath is just staggering.  The size of the fish just keeps getting better the later into the season we get. Thanks Tim King

The weather is starting to get a cooler in the mornings but the afternoons have been beautiful. Thanks Tim King

Today was the steelhead lodge group. Tim and Paula fish with me a couple of times a year . They brought along a few employees to get out and enjoy the fishing. And the same old story today great fishing it just doesn't get any better than this. We had one fish today that was exceptional Chris who is the guy out back by the grill hooked and landed a really nice steelhead to about 14 pounds its the kind of  fish we are used to seeing on the smith during the winter run. The fishing remains great and there is no end in site. Thanks Tim King

A little better grade of fish today. We pounded starwein for 3 and a half hours today and it paid off. We landed 10 nice adults to about 18 pounds. A ton of jacks and 2 steelhead. The plan was to move up river if we made 2 drifts with out a fish in actually never happened we just wanted to see some new scenery it gets a little mundane fishing the same spot over and over.  We finally moved up river to naps and got into some more fish and worked our way back down hooking fish in every place we fished. Gary was fishing along side us in naps and his group was having a great day too. The fishing shows no sign of slowing down and there are plenty of boats available to get on for the next few weeks. I still have the 27th and 28th open in my boat. Thanks Tim King

Doubles triples more adult fish the fishing is fantastic. The scores of fish coming out of this river are really unbelievable every guide boat on the river has a fish on every drift. The amount you can catch in a day is really up to the anglers in the boat 30 40 50 or more the bite never stopped all day . We had doubles on all afternoon and in the morning a bunch of triples we caught fish in every place we fished. The amount of adult fish is increasing every day we turned lose about 10 oversized fish today and we really are not even targeting them. There are also a few steelhead around to help round out the four fish limit 3 salmon one hatchery steelhead. We still have days left open and I am considering staying here later because the fishing is just to good to leave. Thanks Tim King

This is with out a doubt some of the best fishing I have ever seen. We had a lot of triple hook ups and doubles today on every pass we made this morning. Every boat in the drift had fish on in singles doubles or triples. We would hook a fish or two or three land them toss them on the floor and cast back out and hook up again the fishing is phenomenal. I'm not sure how many fish we caught today i do know we had our limits of salmon after about 3 drifts and we continued catching fish up until we quit at around 2 pm.  We also caught some really nice steelhead today. The fishing doesn't get any better than this. Thanks Tim King

The  Incredible fishing continues on the Klamath. We had 3 triple hooks up today a bunch of doubles and an incredible amount of fish hooked and landed today. We had the gang from clear wave  software out and they are all good fisherman. They had the money on the line for the first fish the most the biggest the smallest and everything else you could place a bet on. Its was great day and a really fun trip. There are a ton of jacks a few steelhead and some nice adults in almost every spot on the river we had our limits by 7;30 in the morning and we just kept right on going till our last drift of the day around 2:00 pm and it was a triple hook up coming down blakes on our way out. I still have some room open give me a call and get in the unbelievable run of salmon going up the Klamath. We have landed over 20 fish almost every day this season and have been up in the 30 fish days on a number of trips. Thanks Tim King

Fantastic fishing today. We got to our first spot  and we hooked fish on our first 20 drifts we also had a couple of doubles it was unbelievable most of the fish where jacks, with  3 adults to 18 pounds mixed in. We had our limits before we headed to our second spot to go fishing. This is turning out to be one of the best years for fishing for jack salmon that I can remember.  The rest of the day we did catch and release fishing as we worked our way up to strump and back. All the conditions are still great the weather was about 75 degrees today and very little boat traffic. On a sadder note one of the wild horses that hangs out below blue creek was attacked by a bear last night me and Wally Johnson stopped to see if we could help out with a little doctrine we both have had horses most of our lives only time will tell lets hope for the best. The bears have also been around steelhead lodge every night just more wild times on the Klamath. Thanks Tim King

We will be out fishing starting tomorrow and pretty much every day in September. I have a few days open on the Klamath and a few more on the Sacramento in October. The fishing on the Klamath continues to be unbelievable  with most days over 20 fish landed all this on a year when they predicted no fish. Every body has been going home with a 4 fish limit of fish. The steelhead fishing has been one of the best in recent years and will be good here all the way into November. The bigger fish have started to show and as the run gets bigger our scores could go even higher. Thanks Tim King

There are plenty of jacks and steelhead for easy limits of fish. The adults are starting to show and 2 of the boats had a few. The fishing has just been fantastic these last few weeks and should only get better as more adults move in with the other fish already here. All the boats today had double digits of fish landed.     No pressure at all on the river and some nice steelhead and salmon to catch. We Had 2 adults and one child on board today and I think we landed about 12  fish a combination of adult steelhead in the 7 to 10 pound range and some nice jacks right at the limit mark. The river is wide open you can fish anywhere you want by yourselves the only time we where near another boat is in the morning when all four of us started out in starwein.  After that we all split up and you basically had the Klamath to ourselves. The weather has been perfect cool in the mornings and the sun coming out in the afternoon up to about 70 degrees. Thanks Tim King

The water temperature is about 67 and  the color is a nice shade of Klamath green making it easy fishing.  I just had a cancellation for October 6,7 on the Sacramento these are some prime dates for a great salmon and trout trip. We still have a few days open on the Klamath also. Thanks Tim King

We should start to see our numbers of adult salmon start to increase sometime this week its just hard to get by all the steelhead to catch one. Thanks Tim King

Still great fishing for adult steelhead. There where only 3 guide boats on the river today me Gary and Joe and a few private boats trying to figure it all out. All of us had between 10 and 15 adult steelhead also 5 to 7  jack salmon and 1 or 2 half pounders we lost one adult salmon and Gary landed one . It doesn't get much better than this we cant wait for more adult salmon to move in with the steelhead. Hopefully this world class fishing with very little pressure will continue. on another note if your a private boater looking to catch some fish head this way don't try and reinvent the wheel stick with what works. 8lbs leader number 4 hook a small piece of good quality roe and a fish pill. Don't run over the fish it shuts the bite right off. If you don't know how to side drift go drift where the water is deeper  a lot of times we will be on the fish and because of the difficulty of side drifting some one will boondoggle right down the middle and it ruins it for all of us .  Travel up the sides of the river in the shallow water and idle by when people are fishing and we all will catch more fish. Blue creek is fishing pretty good be sure you stay far away from where the fish are the water is really clear and you have to cast to the fish. Just a few tips to help you guys land a few more fish this year. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:       Klamath

We did not fish this weekend but I heard the bite was just ok a few jacks steelhead and some adults nothing spectacular. On Monday it broke wide open again this time for adult steelhead as Gary Farley would say it was world class fishing today. Very few salmon came in on this push of fish there where some nice jacks mixed in but almost every fish you caught was an adult steelhead in the 6 to 12 pound range and they are chrome bright.  We are talking double digits of adult steelhead. The hot set up is side drifting a small piece or roe and a fish pill on a number 4 hook with 6 or 8 lbs leader. The fish are spread out from the glen riffle up to blue creek no body even tried to go up further. It should be good again tomorrow I cant imagine that all those fish would move out in one day. The boat pressure will be busy as the word spread fast through all the campgrounds that the steelhead had show up in huge numbers. I took a look at the ocean tonight and the seas where dead calm at the mouth this will make easy passage for the fish to swim over the sand bar and enter the river. We still have some days available so give us a call and get in on this unbelievable fishing. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:     Trinity  Klamath

Sorry for the delayed report. Wow the Klamath was really rocking for the anglers that where there this week. We had some rain come in and it cooled down the water just enough to suck a big bunch of fish into the river from the ocean. On Tuesday the fishing broke wide open most boats had between 30 and 60 fish for Tuesday and Wednesday, it was a combination of adult salmon steelhead and jack salmon. The counts quickly slowed down on Thursday we landed 3 adults one steelhead and 3 jacks on Friday we only managed 3 jacks. Some of the boats on Friday headed down to the mouth after a slow morning up river and got into a pretty good bite and managed to get there limits. There are fish now moving in and a few are heading up river it all depends if you prefer to drift fishing or trolling spinners down at the mouth on where you fish. Judging by the number of fish we are seeing this early we are hoping it will be a really good run of fish. I'm back in Douglas city for the weekend and i talked to few anglers that stopped by the house and a few fish where caught the last few days on the Trinity. We will be back on the Klamath on Tuesday and remain there until October 1. Thanks Tim King

My good friend John Rainey floated the Trinity this weekend and had a decent day they hooked 5 and landed 3 salmon.  The Klamath kicked out a 33 pounder this weekend for the lucky angler trolling down at the mouth. The counts over on the Sacramento going through the diversion dam are a little ahead of last years. There are some pretty good salmon fishing opportunities on different rivers in northern California get out and go fishing. Thanks Tim King

The Fishing is just inconsistent on the Trinity river. There are some salmon here but its hard to catch them on any given day. Some days you get them and some days you don't. We hooked two yesterday and landed one to about 14 pounds.  The Klamath is fishing better than anywhere else. Down at the estuary the fall run is staging for there run up the river in a few weeks most boats are hooking up with 3 to 5 salmon and some nice steelhead are also being caught . Trolling spinners or a rouge spinner bait is the top offering. This fishing will only get better in the coming weeks as more fish move in to get used to the different water temperatures the river vs. the ocean. The Trinity fishing will continue to decline for the next few weeks until the fall fish start to arrive.  The Sacramento is about the same as the Trinity there are some fish in the system but the numbers are just not there yet it. Expect it to  start to really turn on at the end of August.  We are going to head over to the Klamath next week and we still have some openings left. Thanks Tim

Hopefully it will be put out soon. The Lagrange restaurant and the bar the diggings are gone from the fire. The fire started in Junction city and has burned its way up to Weaverville. The cdf has been flying there tankers and hopefully we now have the upper hand on it.   Thanks Tim

The bite is picking up on the Sacramento river in the Woodson bridge area. I talk to a couple of guides that fished yesterday one had 4 fish and other one had 5. All where caught drifting bait. The upper river opens in just a few more days and the pressure should be pretty light with the boats spread out in a greater area. Thanks Tim

Current Report:    Trinity river, Klamath river, Sacramento river

The Fishing on the Trinity is going ok . We fished one day so far this week and landed 2 nice salmon to about 20 pounds we saw quite a few fish rolling in the holes in the early morning. The fish have now made it into the upper reaches of the river and the bank fishermen are getting some nice fish from up at the bucktail hole and a few out of jacks hole. The water is now at 450 cfs and is pretty difficult to get a drift boat down the river, you can expect to get out and walk with the boat in more than a few places just to float through. The Klamath is giving up a few salmon for the few boats that have been out this week and a few steelhead are being caught drifting roe in the faster riffles. The Sacramento river down below Red bluff is giving up a few fish but the main run  should show up sometime later. Thanks Tim King.

Tough fishing on the Trinity for spring salmon. Today we hooked one salmon and lost it. We did land a few steelhead but nothing of any size. This has been a really puzzling last few days there where 3 boats on the drift today 2 guide boats and a private boat and none of us had any fish at the take out.  I made a few phone calls to some other guides that fished up above us and they had the same scores one boat had one fish and the other boat had none. Usually this time of year you can see a lot of fish rolling in the deeper holes we saw 2 today. Springers like to travel you can watch them swim right pass the boat as you float down the river this year we have not been seeing hardly any fish today we saw one go by. If the fishing does not pick up in the next week or so its not going too until the fall fish arrive. We don't know if the fish have gone by in the higher water or if its just a very small run. The water Temperature on the lower river is very hot so all the fish should be hightailing it to the cooler water up river. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Thanks Tim King

The fishing was slow on Monday. I think the fish are getting used to the lower flows we could see them rolling in some different spots but we could not get them to bite. The meeting on the Klamath and Trinity over the weekend was really good there was a lot of promises made by the federal government to help out these fisheries only time will tell if they keep there word. Thanks Tim

Current Report:    Trinity river

The fishing has really started to pick up on the Trinity river for spring salmon. Over the next few weeks the fish should be packing into the upper river and slowing there run up river to spawn. The river has dropped down to a decent level and our scores are starting to increase. Today we landed 4 out of the 5 salmon we hooked all good sized fish. We have been pulling plugs and tossing roe to entice them to bite. There are a ton of half pound steelies in the system too and they are hitting all of the offerings also. John and  Joe both caught there first salmon today and did a great job of landing the fish we had a Chinese fire drill on one but we still managed to get it to the boat. We kept the first 2 fish that they caught you always keep your first salmon in your life. And of course we hooked some bigger fish later in the day and released them to head upriver for another day.My second boat  was one drift up from us and had a little tougher day he reported that a few of the boats on his drift had some nice fish to. Looks like most of the runs are now holding fish and it should continue to get better. Thanks Tim King.

Current Report:    Trinity river

The last couple of days have been up and down on the Trinity river.  Over the weekend the scores where 1 to 0 fish per boat on Monday we again had a 1 salmon day fishing in junction city. For today we moved up river to see if we could find the pod of fish we had a few days ago it turned out to be a mistake as we scored a 0 on salmon. My second boat fished down river and was 3 for 4 . Tomorrow we will be back down river and the fish will probable be in the upper river. As more fresh fish move in it wont be as critical to always be on a certain drift. The fish should spread out and be a little easer to have some consistent days. We have been landing some nice steelhead on every trip they are just not very big in the 3 to 4 pound range. The river continues to drop and the fishing will continue to get better as more holes drop in to shape and the fish will slow down there run up the river. Thanks Tim King

The Trinity river is down to 2000 cfs and the fishing is picking up. Spring run salmon are now showing up and with the lower flows we are able to target them in the holes as they hold up. We will have some nice pictures up soon. The fishing should be wide open by next weekend . Thanks Tim

The Trinity is still pretty high making for some tough fishing. The water level is dropping 100cfs a day and once we get below 2000 cfs things usually pick up as a lot more places will be fishable. The best bank fishing continues to be down low at the falls. Drift boat have a had a little success drifting through the Douglas city to Junction city run . One fish has been about average on the river. Thanks Tim King.

Current Report:   Klamath river Trinity river

We have been fishing on the Klamath the last 3 days and will be on the Trinity this week. This has been a tough spring for fishing with all the high water flows. But it is really good for the fish in the long term. The Klamath is giving up a few fish a combination of salmon and steelhead. A lot of the springers took advantage of the high water and the off color conditions to sneak up the river untouched this year. We know that good numbers came through by the counts that the Indians are catching in their nets. On the Trinity side the flows are just now reaching a fishable level to get out in a boat on the upper river. Down river at the falls the fishing has-been good with some nice salmon and steelhead being caught. There are also already fish at the hatchery so fish should be spread throughout the whole river system. Here is my schedule for the rest of the year . July and August I will be fishing the Trinity for salmon we are also going to fish the Klamath in August the first part we will fish down at the mouth till the 15. This is a trolling technique and we catch the fish down in the estuary when they come in from the ocean and get used to the water temperature before making there run up the river. At the end of August we will switch over to drift fishing for the fall run and run right up to the end of September. In October we will be on the Sacramento river for the first 3 weeks then back to the Trinity in November for steelhead.  The Klamath will remain open to fishing after August 15 with a limit of 3 jacks and a hatchery steelhead. We still have some room left on most of our trips so call early to get the best dates.  Thanks Tim

The springers are in on the Klamath and making there way up the river. The flows are down to 15,000 cfs and the fishing is picking up. The first spring salmon was caught this week on the Trinity down at the Indian creek hole from the bank using a big chunk of fresh roe. Its time to get out and start fishing give us a call and we can set up your trip. Thanks Tim King.

We have not been out fishing very much the last month. We did take a few more sturgeon trips out in Montezuma and had some decent fishing on a few of the trips. The river levels have just been to high to really  put up some good numbers of fish. They are all finally coming back down to a more fishable height . The Upper Trinity is running about 5000 cfs and dropping  while the lower trinity is pushing about 10,000 cfs . The lower Klamath is about 20,000 cfs . The spring run is underway and as the water drops a little more the fishing should be good. On the Trinity side we already have a few springers at the hatchery. The Indians are catching quite a few in there nets down at the mouth of the  Klamath so we know the run has started to come in . We are offering springer trips on both rivers you can keep these fish up until the middle of August on the Klamath and the middle of September on the Trinity after that the fall run will start and it will be catch and release fishing only on these two rivers. We are also offering trips on the Sacramento river. Give us a call to set your salmon trips we have a lot of repeat bookings from last year so don't wait to long. We will be posting reports more often now that the fishing is starting to pick up. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:   Klamath river

We attended the meeting in Crescent city on Thursday for the Klamath and Trinity river recreational fisherman. It was very disappointing there was nobody there. Four guides a two motel owners a representative of the kfmc and a few private citizens. I had been talking  with the commissioners about getting a short season on the Klamath and trinity rivers after all they gave the ocean sport and commercials trollers a season and increased the Indians harvest levels and they where now ready to listen to the in river recreational fishermen and offer us a few fish about half of last years catch. Right now there are only to options left on the table and it will be decided in about 2 weeks. Option one is from now to approximately August 15 one salmon 2 jacks one hatchery steelhead after August 15 2 jacks 1 hatchery steelhead and catch and release on all adults the Trinity dates would be around September 1 for the catch and release to start.  The one other option available would be to give the lower Klamath around 300 fish to harvest witch would probable get us to around September 3 none of these fish would be able to be harvested above the lower Klamath. Any way you look at it the Klamath and Trinity will be a catch and release fishery for most of the year.  After listening to every body complain about the regulation and the lack of fish to harvest in the river. We now no why the commission always goes the other way nobody goes to the meetings. The ocean sport meetings had over a thousand people show up and they got a pretty good season.   If you want to be able to fish you need to take action. I would like to thank everybody that called and sent e mails so that noaa would release a few fish to be harvested unfortunately they all went to the ocean fisheries. We will continue to fish the Klamath and Trinity this year these rivers are just to beautiful to head to some of the other rivers in the state that are more crowded and have no opportunities to see wild life on your fishing trips . Now that the process is over we will be concentrating on fishing. The striper fishing is picking up a few springers have started to show on the Klamath and the sturgeon are biting in San Pablo bay. Thanks Tim King

Sunday we fished Montezuma for sturgeon. There was quite a few boats out on the water i had my spot all picked out and we left early to make sure we secured it. We hooked our first fish at around 9:00 am. The rod went down and a good hook set and the fight was on this was a huge fish pulling line like we weren't even part of the picture. It made a run from about 40 feet down in the water  to about 10 feet out of the water it was well over a 100lbs it looked like a whale flying through the air unfortunately this is when it came unhooked. We hooked our second and last fish of the day a few hours later. When fishing for sturgeon i like to fish off of a balance beam the fish did the big vacuum cleaner bite just sucking in the bait and not letting go. The rod was pined over the beam and Mr hill got a great hook set on him. The fish instantly headed for the deepest part of the slough the rod was bent over  like i had never seen before straight down under the boat hill was trying everything he could do but the rod was it bent mode with no movement then the submarine took off   rod still bend taking a huge amount of line with it . Hill was now standing on the bow of the boat with no way to stop this submarine that he had hooked. I decided we had better drop our anchor float and follow him out to sea Hill was slowly putting more drag on the fish these reels have a lever drag system and you can slowly move the drag forward and it was almost all the way forward. At that point the braided line just snapped like a we where fishing with a piece of thread. We never got to see this fish but i know it was over a 100 pounds too. I have some meetings i have to attend over in crescent city on the Klamath fishery for the next few days then we will be back out fishing. Thanks Tim King

The  Sacramento river is slowly dropping but is still to high to fish the feather is also very high. The sturgeon fishing is still good down in the slough and San Pablo bay.  We will be at Elkhorn bait and tackle in Sacramento on Saturday to discuss salmon fishing come on by and say hi. We will be back sturgeon fishing  Sunday through Tuesday and I will have a report up Tuesday night. On the Klamath scene it looks like we will see 300 fish for our quota it will be a catch a release fishery for most of the year on the Klamath and Trinity. The spring run will be starting soon and we can keep one adult per angler till some time in august it should be a good run this year the spring fish have missed all the problems of the low flows from there run timing . The Trinity will be flowing at 8500 cfs from about May 6 till June 6 and will really help pull in these springers from the ocean. Thanks Tim King

With the rivers still to high to fish we headed down to Montezuma slough and the Mothball fleet for some sturgeon fishing. The bite was just a little slow for the last few days and should turn back on soon it has been one of the best sturgeon fishing seasons in a long time. We where fishing with about 25 other boats and only a few fish made it to the net. We have room if any one is interested in hooking one of these fantastic fish. Thanks Tim King

From the information that we have been getting the Klamath and Trinity allocation for this year is going to be around 300 fish. That's for both rivers and it gets divided up from there lower Klamath and upper Klamath lower Trinity and upper Trinity. The rivers will be closed to keeping fish for the whole season basically. The bad part is that the ocean sport fisherman got almost the same season as last year. The Tribal gill netters are supposed to get around 6000 fish I have no problems with the Indians  taking a few fish to feed the tribal elders and a lot of them have stated that they wont be fishing this year to help out the future runs of salmon. We now have available  a house in Alaska and it is available to rent out during salmon season. The prime time is June through August. I will have more info real soon. Thanks Tim King.

Today  President bush offered us his opinion on the problems of the Klamath and how it is affecting the economy of California  by shutting down all ocean fishing  off the coast and in the rivers. He said that when the ninth district court ruled to let more water go down the  Klamath river to keep the fish from dying That it was the wrong decision the flows are fine to support the amount of fish that return. They are planning on appealing the decision  and while it is being appealed the flows will stay the same. Which means we will have more dead fish on the Klamath and very limited fishing in the ocean for many more years. Be sure and vote for someone who supports fishing next time you go to the polls.  There are some stripers being caught down in the delta and the sturgeon fishing is the best it has been in years in San Pablo bay. We are going to take the raptor down and do some diamond back fishing i will let you know how we do. Thanks Tim King

The pfmc  has voted for a recreational salmon season in the ocean. The commercial trollers have a very limited season. Noaa still has to approve it and it looks like they will next week. The fish and game commission will now set the Klamath/Trinity season in the next meeting in Monterey. I don't expect them to give us a season like last year it will probable be a couple of hundred fish. The rain just wont stop and the Sacramento is near flood stage at some places and with another big storm heading our way for Tuesday it will be a while till we start to fish. Thanks Tim King

The pfmc meetings have been going on for 3 days now. There have been some rallies and some good speeches .  But the problem still remains if the pfmc makes a recommendation for a salmon season. Noaa will more than likely still close it. The fishermen did not cause this problem from over fishing it all comes down to the water policies of the bush administration. In 2002 we had the big fish kill of migrating salmon up the river in 2003 and 2004 they killed all the fish migrating back out to sea with warm water temperatures. We will just have to wait a few more weeks to see the outcome of this. There is the possibility of no fishing  at all on the Klamath and Trinity rivers due to the catch and release fish mortality. Thanks Tim King

The meetings have started in Sacramento to decide the fate of our salmon seasons in the ocean and the rivers. There is a rally there sponsored by the coast side fishing club there web site is www.coastsidefishingclub.com . We will be there starting tomorrow. Let me try and explain how the system works but don't quote me its pretty complicated. Noaa fisheries is at the federal level and they have the over all say over the fishing. The pfmc is a state level and they make recommendations to noaa for the western states seasons. The dfg commission has the last say on the in river regulations but they usually follow the lead of the pfmc on what they recommend. This year so far it  looks like the pfmc and the dfg commission are going to recommend a small salmon season but noaa is going to override the decision that they  make this week in Sacramento. We need to keep the emails and phone calls coming all week to noaa fisheries and attend the meetings in Sacramento to make sure the pfmc recommends a salmon season to noaa fisheries . Then noaa will decide at the end of the week after the pfmc makes it recommendations. The dfg commission meets next week in Monterey to decide the river regulations for the Klamath and Trinity rivers.  Please send as many e mails as you can to the Secretary  of state he controls noaa fisheries   cqutierrez@doc.gov  That we want a salmon season. To e mail your senators follow the link at the top of my page to keep pressure on noaa to have a salmon season. The dfg commsion page is  www.fgc.ca.gov/  to comment on the Klamath trinity river salmon seasons. They do not have to follow the recommendations of the pfmc i am not sure if they can go against noaa its federal law vs state law but i don't think noaa has any say over the river regulations. Now for the fishing report normally at this time we would be striper fishing but as you know the rain has been really heavy in march and the Sacramento is still a little high to get out there as soon as it drops we will head out .  Spring salmon season should start in a few months on the Klamath and Trinity if we are able to fish. The Trinity releases this year are going to be at an all time high going up to 8500 cfs. Thanks Tim King

If your a salmon fisherman  ocean or river its time to stand up and be heard or don't complain when you have to travel to a different state to go salmon fishing. This year the decision has already been made at the federal level by the bush administration. There will be no salmon fishing in California  on the ocean waters the Klamath or the Trinity rivers. The feds have decided to close all waters except the Sacramento river in the whole state.  The pfmc is meeting is in Sacramento to make there recommendations to the nmfs. The meeting is at the double tree motel 20001 point west way phone  916 929 8855. We need to show up and let our voices be heard or it will be the same it the years to come that nobody cares about sport fishing in calif. This is a war and we need to stand up and fight or suffer the consequences of the outcome no more salmon fishing in California.   Here is a link to the pfmc www.pcouncil.org .www.pcouncil.org/events/2006/0406pfmc. At the public comment session we need to let our voices be heard that we want salmon fishing in this great state . The only group that will get any fish this year are the  Sacramento river fisherman all other rivers will be closed to fishing. If nobody shows up for these meeting they will be able to close them next year also. Please take the time to attend these meetings and call you senators for your districts. Also please e mail the secretary of commerce as he has control of the nmfs. cqutierrez@doc.gov If you need more info give me a call we will be attending all the meetings in Sacramento and the meetings in Monterey the next week. Steelhead season is pretty much over we will be fishing for stripers as soon as the sacramento river drops back down in to shape. Thanks Tim King

cqutierrez@doc.gov

Please give us a short salmon season on the Klamath river. I am a guide on this river and a complete closure will put as all out of business forever. With boat payments to make a family to feed we rely on the salmon each year to make up the big share of our yearly income. The motels and restaurants and the tribes all rely on the salmon for income from these fish. A complete closure will make it imposable for us to survive the coming year.

Here is some good news. The ninth district court ruled yesterday that know matter how much of a water year we have the flows must be sustain at a level that is good for fish in the Klamath. This should go a long way in helping prevent further fish kills for the migrating smolts and the returning salmon. There is a rumor that we might have a small season on the Klamath this year the tribes are asking for 6000 fish which means the sport fishery should receive 15 percent of that but this is all just talk . The meetings are going on right now and the pfmc should have there decision in early April.   We plan on attending the commission meetings on the Klamath when they happen i will let you know the dates and the location of these meetings. The jet boat is all ready we are just waiting for the weather to heat up a bit before we start striper fishing we have been getting a lot of rain and snow for this time of year. The Trinity will be running really high all spring there is a ton of water that is available this year. The Sacramento river is still running pretty high and will probably stay that way for a while. The lower Trinity is still out and the Smith is at a nice level for fishing. Thanks Tim King

We have not been out fishing the last few days. But the Smith is still giving up a few steelhead  and the Chetco is fishing good also all the other rivers are blown out. The Sacramento is very high and i don't think it will be coming down any time soon. We are going to shift our attention to fighting the salmon issues. The pfmc should make a ruling in early April. Its time to launch phase two of our save the salmon fishery campaign. We must
now all rise up in one unified voice to be heard all the way to Washington,
DC.
If we don't turn this thing around we will become an endangered species. The
effort will shift to rockfish and the end result could be a total collapse of
our fishery.
The economics of this nightmare has the potential to destroy an industry.

Re: California Ocean Salmon Fishery Crisis

In the strongest possible terms, with the utmost urgency, and on behalf of my
friends and family, I urge you to immediately become involved in the
California Salmon management crisis. California recreational anglers are facing an
impending socioeconomic disaster and we urgently need your assistance to avert a
situation that will in all likelihood mark the end of saltwater fishing in
this great state. We urge you to:
1. Avoid an economic disaster in California and demand that the Pacific
Fishery Management Counsel (PFMC) and the National Marine Fishery Service
(NMFS) adopt ‘Option 1’ for a reasonable harvest of Salmon in the ocean at their
April 2006 meeting.
2. Salmon Grow Where Water Flows! In the long-term, we urge you to
demand a balanced management plan for the Klamath River that fully recognizes the
need for a healthy river with adequate cold, clean water flow timed to support
healthy runs of returning and out-migrating salmon.
My friends, family and I have enjoyed the pleasures and benefits of our
Salmon fishery for many years here in California. Our California Salmon fishery is
world class and provides a valuable recreational opportunity for the citizens
of California and for visiting tourists from other states. Salmon are a
valuable, sustainable and renewable resource, providing in addition to recreation,
valuable tourist trade and commercial opportunities. They are one of
California's most valuable resources and must be protected. Saltwater recreational
fishing in California contributes $1.7 billion to the local economy, nearly $500
million in jobs, and over $125 million in fuel and sales tax. The
recreational opportunity for families to enjoy the California outdoors is priceless and
cannot be quantified in economic loss. Our Salmon fishery is too important to
lose.
Regrettably, and due to a failed federal policy, there is a problem with the
fresh water habitat for salmon on the Klamath River. Recall the 2002
fish-kill on the Klamath, which resulted in the loss of 60,000-70,000 adult Chinook
salmon. We must take care of the fresh water environment that salmon depend on
to spawn, and for the initial lives of the young while transiting to the
ocean. Currently the Federal management of water in the Klamath River is having a
severe adverse impact on the ocean salmon fishery extending from below Monterey
to as far north as the Columbia River in Oregon. Inadequate flows have
caused the river to become too warm which has resulted in deadly parasites which
kill 80 to 90 percent of newly spawned Salmon.
The Klamath in-river conditions are solely responsible for current plight of
Klamath River Salmon. All parties involved agree that FISHING IS NOT THE
PROBLEM, yet the fishermen, both recreational and commercial, are being told they
will shoulder the entire burden of this failed federal policy! We request that
you support the PFMC and NOAA in adopting an emergency action to allow some
harvest of the abundant Sacramento River Chinook. On average, recreational
anglers catch only 4 Klamath River salmon for every 1000 Central Valley Chinook!

The PFMC and California Department of Fish and Game estimate that
approximately 25,000-30,000 natural spawning Klamath salmon will return to the Klamath
River this year. If fishing under 2005 regulations it is estimated that this
effort would result in the harvest of only 270 of these natural spawners in the
region south of the Klamath Management Zone! Closing the recreational salmon
season over 0.5% of the Klamath natural spawner run is not justified in any
economic or resource management model. We urge you in the strongest possible terms
to act in the best interests of the citizens of California and support OPTION
1 in front the Pacific Fisheries Management Council. Please get involved now
and help the people of California avert a pending disaster to one of our most
cherished resources.

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel. Sacramento river

The Smith has been the only river fishing the last few days. It has been kicking out a few nice fish with a few downers mixed in. They just released the weir counts for last years Trinity river run . This is not the total number of fish that entered the river only the ones that were counted at the weir. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel. Sacramento river

The lower Trinity is holding at about 18 feet and is still to dirty to fish. It snowed pretty good last night from willow creek up to Redding. We need a dry spell for the Trinity and the Eel to come back in. The smith is in good shape. I talked with Pete and Shawn and the both agreed that the fishing was a little slow but things should pick right back up after this cold front moves through.  Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel. Sacramento river

We fished the lower Trinity over the weekend. The river is still a little high and a little to colored up for optimum conditions.  But we came away with a few half pounders and 2 adults. The key to fishing water like this is to stay close to the bank and fish the slower moving water. The Smith had the Derby over the weekend with some nice fish being landed. The Trinity is dropping fast and we should see some better fishing towards the end of this week. I have some days available if your looking to get out and wet a line for a steelhead. We will have some information on the salmon season as soon as the pfmc makes up there mind on what they are going to do. Thanks Tim King

The   Cal Ore fish derby was on the Smith and the Chetco today. This is a great way to raise money for the Rowdy creek fish hatchery. The score for the derby ran from 0 to 5 fish. Below is a picture of garret who caught his first smith river steelhead. He was fishing in a two boat party and he fished with Walley. There is still time to get in on some great steelhead fishing. Thanks Tim King.

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel. Sacramento river

The  last few days the Smith  has been giving up some nice fish. The boat pressure has been really light. The Trinity is still about 4 feet to high on the lower river to fish and the Eel is still out too. The flows down the Sacramento river are also pretty high the stripers wont start to move up out of the delta until we see a little warmer water temperatures.  We are going to try and get a few days in on the lower Trinity and the Eel if the weather will cooperate. The Smith has the big derby this weekend with around 50 boats scheduled to fish this is great way to raise money for the rowdy creek fish hatchery. The end of March normally sees some nice weather and is a great time to get out for those steelhead before we switch over to striped bass fishing on the Sacramento river. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel

The Smith is still fishing great. We struggled on Friday when most boats where catching fish some days you just don't get them. Saturday we had a great day going 4 for 5 . We landed my second 20 pounder for the year a fresh  buck that weight out at 21 pounds on a certified scale after being bled out. We normally try and release all big fish that we catch but after a long battle down the river the fish was bleeding badly and was going to die. We decided it would be better to take this fish than let it go and die and then kill another one to take home. The smith is in perfect shape and still has a good number of fresh fish mixed in with some down runners. All the other rivers are blown out and will take a few days before the Eel or lower Trinity will fish. Thanks Tim King.

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel

The Smith  Fished a little tough today. The river is in great shape and the water color and level are great. The water temp is a little on the cold side and that may have been the reason for the slower bite today. We ended up going 1 for the two fish we hooked. Most of the boats on the the river had between 0 and the top score of 4 fish. Hopefully the bite will be better tomorrow. Thanks Tim King.

The Smith is back in and fishing great. There were really good numbers of fish caught today. There are a lot of fresh fish moving in with the higher water and the river color is perfect. We still have some showers in the forecast hopefully it wont be to much. Thanks Tim King

All the rivers blew out overnight on the north coast. If we don't see any more rain tonight the Smith will fish tomorrow. There is more rain forecast for the rest of the week it is another night of playing cards with the guides here in Hiouchi. We will have to wait and see what the weather brings Thanks Tim King.

The Smith fished fished pretty good today for some boats the scores were all over the place. Some boats had 5 or 6 fish and others had 1 or 2 it all depended if you were in the right spot when the bite was on. We had the day off today. The rain has hit all the rivers pretty hard every river is out this afternoon but the smith we have to wait and see if it keeps raining all night for what the smith will do tomorrow. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel

Thursday through Saturday we had been fishing the lower Trinity. The fishing has been very good there with some really nice chrome bright fish. There was no pressure on the river at all. On the willow creek section of river. Sunday we fished the Smith it is fishing pretty good for as low and clear as it is. We hooked 3 and landed 1. The weather picture looks good for the Smith with some rain forecast during the week. The fishing on the Smith should pick back up. The other rivers down south will probable blow out from the storm. We still have some great days ahead of us for steelhead fishing. Give us a call to book your Trip. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river. Trinity. Eel

Yesterday we had one boat on the Smith and they went one for two fish hooked. Still pretty slow fishing I talked to Pete Spacio and he was two for two also on the Smith. Brice Dusi was  fishing over on the Eel and he was 3 for 5 for his clients . We are fishing the lower Trinity in my boat and will remain here through Saturday. Sunday I have to return to fish on the Smith.  There is finally some rain in the forecast this will really change things up if we see some significant rain fall. The Eel only needs  an inch or so  to go back out and the lower Trinity wont handle much more than that at this time either. Through the weekend the Trinity and the Eel are the best places to fish. The Smith may turn back on after this next storm. We will just have to wait and see. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river.

Another rough day of  fishing on the Smith .  We landed 2 out of the 3 fish that we hooked. The good news is that they where both nice fish a 15 pounder and a 12 pounder. We are headed south to some other rivers. The Eel is giving out some good numbers of fish but almost all of them are downers and a few half pounders mixed in.Thanks Tim King.

Still tough fishing on the Smith . The top scores where 1 or 2 fish per boat with a lot of zeros . We are going to give it one more day and see if things pick up. A lot of times all the boats will head to different rivers and the bite will turn back on. if we don't do good tomorrow we will head south with a couple of boats to hit a different river. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river.

Sorry for the late reports.  On Friday we had a pretty good day with all the boat pressure from the derby we went 4 for 6. On Saturday the fishing pressure was intense we got a big goose egg. On Sunday i had 2 boats out Walley was 2 for 4 and Dave got one. The fishing on the smith is slowing down from all the boat pressure from the derbies. I expect things to pick back up through out the week as the fishing pressure lightens up. Over on the Eel the boats are getting a few more fish but they are mostly down runners and the numbers just are not that good . Some of the guides have come back to fish on the smith where the fishing is a little tougher but we are still catching up run fish. There is no rain in the forecast we are going to stay on the Smith for the time being until the main stem Trinity or Eel comes in. Thanks Tim King.

Current Report:  Smith river.

The Fishing was good today for most boats. We hooked 7 and landed 5. With the big crowds all down south on the Eel the smith is fishing great. There is a derby this weekend and i expect our scores to be a little lower from some more boat pressure. All the fish we have been getting are real nice fish in the 10 to 14 pound range and chrome bright. The weather has been cold in the morning and sunny in the middle of the day. If we get some rain in the near future the scores will go higher. Thanks Tim King.

The Smith is still going strong for the last two days our scores have been about the same. Today we where 4 for 5 and yesterday we where 3 for 5. There is some rain forecast later in the week that should help out the fishing. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river.

The Smith fished good today. The boat pressure was a lot lighter than over the weekend. We caught a couple of really nice fish going 14 and 15 pounds and one around 12 pounds. We hooked 2 more but lost both of them. We had a few other bites but we just didn't get a hook in them.  The river is holding in the 9 foot range and is barley dropping. The weather has been unbelievable warm with bright sunshine all day long The fishing should continue to be good and with the light boat pressure and things could pick up. The south fork of the Eel is coming into shape and baring any more rain will be fishable down below  Garberville soon. The flows on the Trinity are also coming down but the best fishing will be down low where the flows are still to high. We  still have some open dates give us a call to book your trip. Thanks Tim King.

Current Report:  Smith river.

The Smith river is still in good shape it has just a slight hint of green to it. Its now dropping very slowly.  We didn't catch any real big fish today just some nice 10 pounders. We ended up going 3 for 4. I think the fishing will start to pick back up in the next few days. The ocean swell has laid back down and we should see more fish push into the system. The South fork of the Eel is just starting to come into shape on the upper drifts around Benbow it still needs to drop a little more before the fishing will take off over there. The Trinity is also dropping back down i would say the upper river is done for the year the only good fishing will be down low below the south fork and new river. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river.

The fishing was a little slower today. But when you land a 20 pounder they were not complaining.  We hooked 4 fish and landed 3 to 20 pounds. We let the big fish go to swim up and spawn in the river. The conditions are perfect the river is in the 10 ft range and the weather has been wonderful with sunny skies all day. Hopefully the fishing will pick up a little bit for us tomorrow. Thanks Tim King

Sorry for the late reports we have been very busy the last few days. The smith is fishing really good. The level is down to 11 ft. Today we had a fantastic day we hooked nine fish and landed seven. The weather looks great . Give us a call to book your trip. Thanks Tim King

The Smith is holding in the 16ft range. Its still a little high to get out there and fish in my opinion. We will be canceling our boats for Friday today. I personally feel its better to cancel the trip and have you come back up on a different day than to take you on a boat ride down the river. We are all losing lots of trips this year due to weather. The one thing you can count on is that i  put  my clients  interest first we wont go if i done think we have a shot at hooking fish on your day . I personally don't like to plunk  it is very successful at certain river levels all of our trips are drift fishing trips. We still have some open dates in February and March give us a call to set up your trip. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river.

After canceling our trip on Monday i knew the river would not fish Tuesday so we lost it too. Last night it poured here in crescent city and by looking at the smith river  graph the river is still shooting straight up. The hopeful prognosis is we will be fishing on Friday . This has been a really wet year the chetco has only been fishable about 5 days out of the month of January. The Trinity and the Eel never came in. There are a lot of fish that are making it way up the creeks and tributaries. We should see the results of this about 3 years from now with a bigger return of steelhead. Lets all keep our fingers crossed that we have some decent weather for February and March. Thanks Tim King

I'm not sure if we are going to fish today. The river is on a slow rise this morning. After  breakfast we will make a decision. The rest of the week looks good with just a few showers in the forecast. If we fish I will have a report up tonight. 8:00 am we called it off for today. I really didn't think we had a chance to land a few fish drifting bait and with the clients not wanting to sit in a boat and plunk for 8 hours  we rescheduled there Trip.  Thanks Tim King.

Current Report:  Smith river.

After Saturdays big rise in the river we cancelled for Sunday on Saturday evening. I now think that was a mistake the river started to drop at about 10:00 pm and was at a good level for fishing this morning. Some times you get it right and sometimes you don't.  There is more rain in the forecast for tonight how much we will get is just a guess. I am going to wait and see how the river looks tomorrow  morning before i cancel the next trip. Hopefully we will be out fishing. The river is at 12.5 and dropping.  Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river.

The river came up a last night and we decided to go have breakfast and see what shape the river was going to be in. I had 5 boats scheduled for today after a big breakfast at the hiouchi cafe me and Pete went down and decided the river was just rising to fast to have a good shot at getting into some good numbers of fish.  So we cancelled all the trips for Saturday. It was the right decision the river was totally blown out by 10:30 in the morning. Thanks Tim King

Some days you just want to start over. We struggled all day. Our drifts just were not hitting the right spots. We landed 4 fish out of the 5 we hooked. The river is still in great shape and there are a lot of fish here. The is some rain in the forecast for Saturday. We will have to wait and see how much the smith rises and what the conditions will be. We have some room for the river to come up and still fish good. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:  Smith river.

The Smith is just loaded with fish. All the boats had fish today and some really good numbers. We hooked 7 and landed 5 with some first time steel headers. The river is in great shape and is about 10 feet on the gauge. There is some rain forecast for the next few days which will probable bring the river up a little. We actually need it to keep the
