Date: Sunday December 19, 2004 at 07:00 PM We have been fishing over on the Trinity the last few days. The upper river above the south fork is gin clear below that the river still has a little bit of color to it. The fishing was pretty slow we fished both areas and only landed 3 steelhead. There is a lot of boat traffic and bank fisherman on the upper sections. The Smith has been giving up a few steelhead over the last few days for boaters and for plunkers. When we crossed over the Mad river on our way back to the Smith believe it or not in was pretty green. We also heard that the Van Dussen was in and seeing some decent numbers of early steelhead. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday December 16, 2004 at 07:00 PM Some nice steelhead are making there way up the Smith and the Trinity river. This is the start of 3 months of good steelhead fishing. Wally Johnson of Seiad valley guide service and me went one for 2 a nice 12 pound buck. Gary Farley and Rich Mossholder had 3 nice steelies Willie Plunket had a couple and a few boats got skunked. The weather is supposed to be clear all week with no rain in the forecast. The river levels are perfect but with no rain will be dropping fast. We will be fishing on the Trinity for the next few days . Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday December 15, 2004 at 05:00 AM We received a little bit of rain over the last 2 days just enough to bring the Smith up a little and to help keep it green. The fishing remains about the same with some nice steelhead being caught everyday. The rain did not effect the Trinity and the whole river is in good shape for steelhead fishing .My report page is getting very long. We have not been putting up any pictures because of the time it takes for the page to load for our dial up customers. We will be archiving this page on December 31 and start all over along with our photos page. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday December 13, 2004 at 05:00 AM Fresh steelies move in to the Smith. The rivers are all in prime shape with some fresh steelhead moving in. The big fish caught yesterday on the Smith by Alan Borgoues was a beautiful 20 pounder. We did not here of any salmon being caught looks like it is all but over for the kings this year. The Trinity is in great shape also. The lower river will have some nice fish as they move up out of the Klamath. The weather looks good for the week with no really big storms forecast just light rain. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday December 10, 2004 at 05:00 AM The rivers are all on there way back down. The upper Trinity river above the north fork is at a good level for fishing. The lower river is still to high. The Smith is starting to green up but is still to high for fishing today .We will have to wait and see how much it drops in the next 24 hours. No reports from the Mad river yet but you can bet there are steelhead there these fish are used to mud. There is more rain in the forecast for the weekend but not in the amounts we received in the last 3 days. We got over 17 inches of rain in 3 days. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday December 8, 2004 at 08:00 AM
It started raining here in Smith river at about 4:00 PM yesterday and it is still raining now at 8:00 Am. The Smith is running at over 60,000 cfs it was at 400 cfs 2 days ago. All this water should bring in some steelhead when things calm down. The ocean is putting up some huge swells in the 20 foot range this makes it hard for the fish to enter the river the swells will be lying back down in a few days. The upper Trinity is about the only place to fish right now if you just have to get out and go. More rain is still in the forecast for the rest of the week. We will keep you posted as things change. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday December 7, 2004 at 07:00 AM Just what we needed. The storm came in Wednesday afternoon and continued to dump rain on the north coast all night. The Smith when from 400 cfs to 18,000 over night completely blowing it out. The Trinity and Klamath are also on the rise. More rain is forecast for the rest of the week. On the Trinity side it has been a combination of snow and rain .In Douglas city there was a few inches of fresh snow this morning with more forecast for this evening .The fishing will pick up after the rivers start to drop. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday December 6, 2004 at 08:00 AM The north coast is finally seeing some rain. The wind and rain started about 6:00am here in Smith river and is forecast to continue into Wednesday. We have not been out fishing for a few days we have been waiting for some more fish to move in to the rivers before we start again. If this series of storms produces enough run off to raise the river levels we should see some fresh fish move up the Smith and the Klamath then into the Trinity. The Smith has been producing some decent numbers of salmon down at the piling hole. The Trinity is good for a bunch of half pounders with a few adults mixed in. That is about the only action going on at this time. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday November 30, 2004 at 06:00 PM We had a first time fisherman and woman on board for the last two days. The goal was to teach them how to handle a spinning reel and a plug rod and try to land a few steelhead. The conditions on the Trinity have been very challenging with no rain and low and clear conditions. We fished one day down low where there is ample room to learn to cast and one day up above where the river is much smaller and the fish are more concentrated. We accomplished most of our goals and made some new fishermen out of some very nice people. We landed a few steelhead but nothing of any big size. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday November 28, 2004 at 05:00 PM Fishing was a little better today. We landed some nice adults. One around 10lbs we caught all of them pulling plugs. Side drifting roe produced all of our half pounder action and one dark salmon looking for his last meal. The weather is very cold. There was Ice on all the guides and we had to keep dipping our reels in the water to keep the drags from freezing solid . That's steelhead fishing. If you haven't booked your steelhead dates yet now is the time to do so. We offer trips on the Smith Trinity Eel or the Chetco . Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday November 27, 2004 at 06:00 PM Today we landed 3 adult steelhead and we hammered the half pounders making for a fun day of fishing. All of the fish were caught side drifting roe. The weather looks good for the next few days with a chance of rain later in the week. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday November 26, 2004 at 04:00 PM The fishing on the Trinity for steelhead is a little slow. We really need a good rain to bring in some fresh fish from the ocean . Over the last few days we have landed a lot of fish but most of them are half pounders they are a blast to catch but are not very big in size . We landed 2 nice fresh adult fish in the 8lbs range to round out the day one was a hatchery hen the other a wild buck. The pressure has really dropped off on the upper river due to the slower fishing. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday November 20, 2004 at 05:00 AM The Trinity and the Klamath are the only rivers open to fishing at this time all the other coastal river are subject to low flow closures and are closed at this time. The Smith is open down below the 101 bridge and has been giving up some really good numbers of salmon. Over the weekend there was around 10 to 15 boats all anchored up together in the most popular spots and most boats landed some good numbers of fish. The Trinity is seeing a lot of pressure as it is the only river that is a short drive and has quite a few steelhead for this early in the year. We have been hooking lots of fish up to twenty plus but most of them have been half pounders with a few adults mixed in up to around 10lbs. When we do get some rain look for the Smith to break wide open and the Trinity steelhead action to pick up with adult fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday November 12, 2004 at 04:00 AM We have been fishing on the Trinity the last few days in some areas where there is less pressure. We are targeting only steelhead and have been doing ok. The last two days we landed 2 adults on both days .All the fish where between 8 and 10 pounds. There are a ton of half ponders moving thought the Klamath and the lower Trinity making for some good action on smaller fish. I talked to Tommy at little Rays tackle in Klamath Glen and he reports the action is decent on the Klamath side they are still seeing some nice Coho move in everyday along with a few steelhead and the half pounders. I am sure your all tired of hearing this but we need some rain to get things going over on the Smith. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday November 10, 2004 at 05:00 AM The Smith is to low to drift the only fishing going on here now is down in the estuary and a few holes just above the 101 bridge. The Trinity is low also but it is giving up some nice steelhead and a few salmon depending on which section of river you are fishing. Same old story we really need some rain. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday November 7, 2004 at 07:00 PM The Smith is giving up pretty good numbers of salmon a combination of jacks and adults. All the rivers are low and clear at this time we really need some good rain to get things going and bring in some more fresh fish. The forecast is calling for a few showers on Tuesday lets hope its a good one. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday November 4, 2004 at 07:00 PM The fishing on the Trinity has been good the last few days. We have been catching some nice steelhead and a few dark salmon to release back to spawn . We also caught our first Coho on the Trinity side this week. There is some rain in the forecast hopefully it will amount to a couple of inches. It would really help out the costal rivers and kick the smith in to high gear for some monster salmon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday October 29, 2004 at 07:00 PM The fishing is on cruise control on the Trinity . We have fished in the upper river and down low and the results are about the same. A few salmon and steelhead . We really need some rain to stir things up a bit . The river is at the lowest level I have ever seen it making for very spooky fish. The Smith is giving up a few nice Salmon but it too needs some rain to keep it going. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday October 27, 2004 at 05:00 PM Spawning salmon . We saw lots of salmon spawning in the river today. We hooked quite few and kept one nice hen for the smoker. Most of the salmon on the Trinity are way past there prime. They are fun to catch but not much good for table fare. The main quarry has shifted over to steelhead fishing. We are going to fish down lower tomorrow to where there is some better steelhead water. The upper river is in great shape but is a little low for side drifting roe, although its perfect for fly fishing under an indicator. The weather looks good through the weekend. I have a few dates available over on the Smith for salmon during November. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday October 25, 2004 at 07:00 PM The fishing on the Trinity is pretty good with good numbers of steelhead . The salmon are getting dark but lots of fun to catch as they get ready to spawn. It is raining here tonight and is going to continue for the next few days. The rivers are all pretty low. Rain is just what the doctor ordered to improve the fishing. The Smith and the Chetco have been the place to be for some big salmon the last few days if you are interested in catching a really big fish this is the time of year to do it . Give us a call and we will make it happen. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday October 23, 2004 at 05:00 AM The Rain has been coming down steadily since Friday afternoon on the north coast. The Smith will again be the best bet for salmon fishing over the next few days. The Trinity up above Junction city is a good for salmon and steelhead. We will be back on the water on Monday. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday October 21, 2004 at 04:00 PM We have been fishing on the Klamath since August 10 and today was the first day we got skunked in about 70 days of fishing. Its time to move over to the Smith or upper Klamath or the upper Trinity. It was a good season and I cant wait till next year. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday October 20, 2004 at 04:00 PM The Smith is the place to be. The action has broke wide open on the Smith with the recent rains the big salmon are making there way up the river. We are running our last trip on the Klamath on Thursday. We will be switching over to our drift boat on Saturday . There is more rain forecast for this weekend so the river should remain open. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday October 19, 2004 at 04:00 AM We have not been out on the water the last few days. The weather has been pretty bad. The rain really is not that bad to deal with it is the wind that makes for difficult fishing conditions. The wind has been gusting up to 20 miles per hour all night along with a few showers hopefully it will lay down soon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday October 17 2004 at 08:00 AM The fishing for King salmon is winding down on the lower Klamath river. We are still seeing really good numbers of silver salmon move in along with some really nice steelhead. The mouth of the Klamath has made a big change towards the south side making it easy for bank fisherman to catch some silvers or steelhead . It started raining here Saturday afternoon and continues to do so here on Sunday morning. We are still expecting some more kings to arrive these will be the big fish that come up late in the fall and spawn in the lower river all of these fish must be released. With the rain we are getting this weekend I expect this to be a pretty good week of fishing. There are a few nice salmon being caught over on the Smith river down in the estuary if we get a lot of rain over the next few days this fishery will really take off. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday October 14, 2004 at 04:00 PM The mouth is back open and more salmon and steelhead are on there way. Yesterday was a tough one with the mouth closed off their was no new fish moving through the lower river. We struggled all day landing one adult and a bunch of half pounders. Today when we launched the boat the water had dropped at the boat ramp. Our numbers where much better we landed 5 nice salmon 1 adult steelhead and a bunch of half pounders. Thanks Tim King Date: Tuesday October 12, 2004 at 08:00 PM More nice steelhead . The steelhead fishing continues to be ok with some nice adults and a bunch of half pounders. The king salmon fishing seems to be winding down we are still getting some jacks but only a few adults. The Coho fishing is pretty good you really have to target these fish they hold in completely different areas.. All Coho must be released but they put up a really good fight a lot like a steelhead . There may be more kings on there way the mouth has been sanded in for the last few days and the water has been backing up the river. The glen rock is completely covered it looks like a big lake on the lower river. When it breaks lose we might see a good push of fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday October 11, 2004 at 04:00 PM The fishing is continues to cruise along on the Klamath. We landed some nice salmon and a 10 pound wild steelhead today. The weather is picture perfect cold in the mornings and hot in the afternoon. If you would like to fish a whole river by yourself now is the time to come. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday October 9, 2004 at 07:00 PM Almost absolute solitude on the Klamath river. We started out at Starwein this morning and worked our way up to Mey Tah we only saw about 5 other boats in 30 miles of river. The fishing is good, and as you can see from the pictures are fresh from the ocean. We have a few days open in the Jet boat if you want a shot at some nice fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday October 8, 2004 at 04:00 PM The last few days we have seen some pretty good action on the Klamath river. We are still getting some nice King salmon and a bunch of silvers. The silvers are one of the hardest hitting fish in the river and put up a great fight. We have also been picking up a few nice steelies the last few days. The weather is calling for rain over the weekend then back to sunshine for the rest of the week. I have a few openings left on the Klamath if you still want to get in on the action before we head over and start to drift the Trinity. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday October 5, 2004 at 05:00 PM The Klamath continues to give up some nice salmon and steelhead. There are still some fresh kings moving through the lower river we will continue to fish here till things start to slow down. We have also been catching a few silvers and a steelhead or two. The girls won the bet today with the first fish of the day. They had a blast trying to get it in the net. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday October 2, 2004 at 04:00 PM We have had the last two days off we will have a report up on the Klamath Sunday night. The counts look good over on the Trinity side at the willow creek weir they are seeing good numbers of adults jacks and steelhead. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday September 29, 2004 at 05:00 PM The fishing has been changing daily the last two days. Yesterday was the easiest day we have had all season. The fishing was phenomenal ! We landed a fish on almost every drift we made . Today was just the opposite. It was probably the toughest day we have had all season. We struggled to get a bite everywhere we went. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday September 28, 2004 at 04:00 PM We didn't catch a lot of fish today. We went hunting for some of those huge Klamath river 5 year old salmon that hang out by themselves. This is the time of year when they start there runs up the river . The big one that made it to the boat after a long battle was a great fish. After a few pictures we released him to carry on his journey home. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday September 27, 2004 at 05:00 PM An awesome day on the river. Things started out slow in the morning the bite just had not really been happening. We moved from hole to hole looking for some fish. At around 9:00 in the morning we found them. It started with the first person in the front of the boat landing a nice adult on the first drift through. On the next three drifts it rotated down the boat with every one landing a nice adult. For the next four drifts Ron got every fish. The bite continued for about 2 hours with us continually landing fish. A light breeze started to slow down our drift so we pulled over for some lunch. At this time another boat finally showed up big Joe. He landed a double on his first pass. There is still plenty of fishing left on the Klamath river. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday September 26, 2004 at 05:00 AM Klamath still going strong. On Wednesday Billy Jesperson was fishing for me and they had a really good day landing some nice steelhead and some good King salmon. Thursday we were off. Friday and Saturday the fishing remained pretty good we again caught some nice steelhead and some nice adult salmon with the jacks mixed in. The moss continues to be a problem it seems like there is more of it now that there was a week ago hopefully it will go away soon. Over on the Trinity side the lower river below Willow creek is kicking out some decent numbers of steelhead and salmon. The upper river is still on the slow side on the salmon fishing but there are a few steelhead around above Junction city. A few of the guides have left the lower Klamath to start fishing in some other areas. There is a few fish starting to show up in Hornbrook on the upper Klamath and a few fish are being caught in the estuary over on the Smith. Give us a call if you would like to get in on the action on some of the other North Coast rivers. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday September 21, 2004 at 04:00 PM Two great days of fishing on the Klamath river. The fishing has finally kicked in to a higher gear . We are seeing double digit numbers of fish landed on most of the guide boats out on the river the last few days. Lots of jacks and some really nice adults are now being caught boondoggling bait. We also have been landing some nice adult steelhead and a few Coho salmon mixed in to make things interesting. The weather has been picture perfect for fishing cold in the mornings and sunny in the afternoon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday September 19, 2004 at 05:00 PM The fishing has been about the same the last few days. We are starting to see some fresh fish move in from the ocean. It has been raining the last few days and with the lower water temperatures may signal for more salmon to start there migration up the Klamath river. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday September 17, 2004 at 04:00 PM The fishing has been tough the last few days. We just not have been able to catch as many fish that the Klamath is famous for . The main reason is all the moss floating down the river. The fish are having to constantly move to keep it from going through there gills. When a piece of bait comes by coated with moss the last thing they are going to do is bite it. Persistence has been the key and we have landed fish on each trip some nice adults and jacks. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday September 15, 2004 at 03:00 PM We had a short day on the river today to allow for their driving time on there return trip to Reno. We fished for a few hours and had a few Jacks and a few adults and called it a day. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday September 14, 2004 at 04:00 PM We had 3 anglers on board today. We seemed to be in the wrong place every time the bite was on. We ended up with 6 adults and 1 jack landed and we lost a few other ones. The river is dropping like a rock from the flows on the Trinity being dropped down to 450 cfs. Hopefully this might help slow down some of the fish moving up river and drop out some of the moss floating down the river. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday September 13, 2004 at 05:00 PM Sunday we had a good day. Hooking 14 fish and landing 9. Seven of them were adults with 2 jacks. Today was jack day we landed 7 jacks and 2 adults . The river is full of moss when it starts to drop out the fishing will get better. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday September 11, 2004 at 03:00 PM The fishing is starting to go red hot on the Klamath. We had an awesome day fishing. We landed a lot of fish today and we lost a lot of fish. The pulling of the nets has allowed the fish to make there move upriver unimpeded .There is some rain forecast for the coming week. Pull out the rain gear and get in on this hot fishing. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday September 10, 2004 at 05:00 PM The fishing is really starting to pick up on the Klamath. The commercial netting season for the Indians has been closed. Almost everybody had a fantastic day the mood on the river was great with every body hooking fish. Things should really start to get cooking in the next few days. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday September 9, 2004 at 04:00 PM We had 3 boats out on the river today. The fishing was tough at some spots and really good at some other ones. It really depended on if you were there when the bite was on. So everybody's score was a lot different. Two of us had good days while one boat struggled. Luckily my boat was back on track today. We would like to thank RMC lone star for a great trip. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday September 8, 2004 at 05:00 PM We had a couple of boats on the river today. Wally had the best numbers he was landing fish in most of the spots we fished. My boat struggled all day we ended up with 3 adults and 1 jack. It is a pleasure to work with the best guides. I am very lucky to be able to use them on our big trips. Hopefully fishing in my boat will pick back up tomorrow. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday September 7, 2004 at 05:00 AM The fishing continues to get better for us despite the added pressure from the holiday weekend. The size of the fish that we have been catching have increased over the last few days. There are still a ton of jacks in the river and we released our first Coho of the year. With the water flows dropping the fish have been easier to catch and our numbers to the boat have increased. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday September 4, 2004 at 03:00 AM The pictures speak for themselves it was a great day of fishing on the Klamath river. We hammered them. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday September 3, 2004 at 02:00 PM Another great day salmon fishing on the Klamath river. We hooked a lot more adults today . Again we hooked a nice fish on our first drift in the morning . There were good biters at most of the places we fished today. We has limits for everybody. After releasing a bunch more we called it a day. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday September 2, 2004 at 03:00 PM A very easy day for us on the Klamath river. We hooked a big salmon on our first drift in the morning and we kept hooking fish till we quit around noon. Most of the fish that we caught were jacks with a few adults mixed in. With every body on board having limits of salmon and the wind really starting to kick up my clients decided to call it a day Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday August 31, 2004 at 06:00 PM Things improved today the wind was not nearly as bad as yesterday and some new fish are starting to move in. We landed a really nice hatchery steelhead around 10 pounds 5 adult salmon and a few jacks . We made a trip down to the mouth of the Klamath on the out going tide but there was to many nets in the river to fish the spot that we had wanted to try. The good news is that we say lots of fish being netted as more fresh fish are starting to moved in. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday August 30, 2004 at 05:00 PM We give Honest reports on how the fishing is for a particular day scores vary from boat to boat and the area they are fishing. High winds and white caps on the river made for some challenging fishing. We had 3 boats on the river again today one boat had 2 jacks one boat had one adult salmon my boat had 2 adults and one jack. We are all hoping for things to improve tomorrow. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday August 29, 2004 at 03:00 PM The water is high and the fish are all spread out which is good for the fish but a little difficult to get some great numbers in the boat. We had 3 boats on the river today and they all caught some nice adult king salmon. My boat landed 3 adults and one jack salmon plus a bunch of half pound steelhead. Hopefully we will see some better numbers soon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday August 28, 2004 at 07:00 PM Tough bite for us today. Again we hooked some nice fish we just could not get them to the boat. These fish are fresh from the ocean and put up a really good fight. We did not hook as many fish as the previous days we still managed one nice steelhead a adult salmon a few jacks and a few half pounders. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday August 27, 2004 at 03:00 PM Better quality of fish today. We hooked around 12 fish today but only managed to land 6 of them. We had 5 salmon and one adult steelhead. The water temperature is perfect at around 68 degrees. Hopefully we can improve tomorrow on the number of fish we land. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday August 25, 2004 at 05:00 PM The water has arrived on the lower Klamath river. The water temperatures have dropped about 4 degrees down to 70.We had a pretty good day hooking around 10 salmon and landing 7 the biggest was about 12 lbs. We also hooked a bunch of steelhead .Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday August 23, 2004 at 09:00 AM The water is on its way from the Trinity river. The colder and higher flows will bring the fish up out of the estuary to start there run up the Klamath river. We expect the fishing to really start to improve around Wednesday. The bite the last few days has been a little tougher the water temps have been to high and with the increased boat traffic made for lower catch rates over the weekend. We are taking 2 days off and will be back on the river on Wednesday. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday August 20, 2004 at 03:00 PM We landed a ton of steelhead today and a bunch of jack salmon. The largest steelhead was about 8 lbs. The salmon are down in the estuary and are waiting for some cooler water to start there migration up river. The Indians are filling there commercial quota and should be done netting soon. Looks like its going to be a great year. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday August 19, 2004 at 02:00 PM Moss, fish, nets,Lemurs. With the small increase in flows from the upper Klamath the amount of moss has significantly increased in the river. This will hurt the Indians as the moss really plugs up there nets. The amount of netting activity has really increased in the last few days down at the mouth as a few fish are starting to move in with the good tides . We had a nice day hooking lots of jack salmon and half pound steelies and a nice adult salmon around 25 pounds. The big news of the day is we spotted a Lemur today in the Klamath basin. These have not been seen here for decades and are mostly limited to the coast of Madagascar. There has been a small group living in the Rouge river valley that are around a 100 miles west of the Klamath. We snapped a few pictures of the one we saw. We are going to discuss this unusual occurrence on a radio program AM1140 at around 6:00 AM Saturday morning please tune in for all the details. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday August 17, 2004 at 05:00 AM Thanks to every one body who has been calling and e mailing .We saw more dead fish on Monday than we have seen all week. They are floating on the surface and tumbling down the sand near the bottom of the river. Unfortunately there where no employees out on the water from the fish and wild life service to see the increased numbers of dead fish. The BOR is stating that they are waiting for the department of fish and game to recommend higher flows which has already been done. They have started to increase flows by 100 cfs on the Klamath side but they decreased the flows on the Trinity side by 50 cfs.We will start reporting on how the fishing is going tomorrow. Thanks Tim King
Hey
Tim,
Date: Saturday August 14, 2004 at 05:00 AM Over the last few days we have been asking you to call the DFG and ask them to send more water down the Klamath River. The response has been tremendous. The DFG has been working hard on getting more water for the Klamath. They have had people out on the river monitoring it every day. We would like to thank them for supporting the sport fisherman and the tribal fisheries. But now we need to help them out. Their voices have been falling on deaf ears. The Bureau of Reclamation does not care about the fish or have any people out on the river daily. But they are the ones in charge of managing the water release from the dams. They have turned their backs on the sport and tribal fisherman of the Klamath and Trinity Rivers. The water temperature today was 74 degrees in the lower Klamath. Way too hot to support fish. All the fish that are here are concentrated in one area below Blue creek in the 1 or 2 degree cooler water from the flow of the creek. We netted a few dead fish that were floating down the river and both had signs of gill rot. In this warm water and with all the fish concentrated in a few areas it will spread to all the fish and kill them all. The Bureau of Reclamation gave the farmers 100 percent of their full water deliveries this year while they cut the flows down the Klamath River for the fish. It’s still not too late. There is water in Iron Gate Reservoir and Trinity Lake that can be released to save your fish from dying a useless death. The US Fish and Wild life also needs to make recommendations to release more water now. Their current plan from the BOR is to release some water starting on August 23 from the Trinity and the Klamath on the 15th. The amount from the Klamath is so small that it will have absolutely no effect on the fish. This is totally unacceptable. We need everybody to make a few phone calls or emails. Let them know they must release water now - Monday morning - to save the fish in the lower Klamath. Also they need to sustain these flows through September 15th to avoid killing them a few weeks from now on their migration up the river. Please join us with the Department of Fish and Game in recommending higher flows on the Klamath now. The numbers to call are all employees of the BOR. The head Cheese for the state of Calif. Kirk Rodgers 916-978-5103. Tell him to release water now. Dave Sabo541-883-6935 is in charge of the Klamath River basin. Tell him to open the gates today. Jim Bryant 541 883-6935. Also call your Senators, they can put pressure on the BOR to release the water. Please make a few phone calls today, Monday morning from work or on your cell phones. It is extremely important we get more water. You can also check out www.usafishing.com. They have some good information on the subject. Make sure you check out the picture of the dead fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday August 10, 2004 at 05:00 PM A tough bite this morning on the Klamath. Things picked up in the afternoon and we managed to land 5 nice steelhead. We did see one boat with a nice salmon. The mouth is very crowded with the Indians fishing for their commercial catch. There are nets everywhere making for difficult fishing conditions. The Klamath has been unusually clear for this time of year but that is about to change. We saw the first signs of moss floating down the river today. When they increase the water flow from the dam on August 15th it will break off a ton of moss that has grown on the rocks all summer. The end result is the water turns more of a shade of green and the moss collects on the Indians nets showing up under water like a green matt. This will make a lot more work for them to be able to net fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday August 9, 2004 at 03:00 PM The steelhead fishing remains good on the lower Klamath. There are a few Salmon being caught also. We managed to land 2 and lost a really nice one right at the net about a 25 pound fish. The water temperature is still too high for any big pushes of salmon to start their run up river. Look for things to start to get better with the water releases about the 15th of August. Until then it will be mostly steelhead with a few salmon mixed in. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday August 8, 2004 at 05:00 AM Steelhead fishing is picking up on the lower Klamath. The last few days the steelhead bite has been pretty good. The lower water temperatures are the reason for the good action. These are adult fish running about 5 to 8 lbs. Fly fishing or tossing spoons and side drifting bait has been the hot ticket to hooking these great summer run steelies. The salmon fishing remains slow with a few fish being caught down at the mouth and up at Blue creek. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday August 5, 2004 at 09:00 am The Klamath is set to break open for the start of the fall run. The DFG fish counters will be at the boat ramps starting Friday. They will be examining the heads of the fish to determine if it is a fall fish or a Springer. How do you tell them apart? The hatchery fish have a tag in their head that can be scanned. It is very important that they do not count spring run fish toward the quota of the fall run. Once the number of fish being scanned reaches over 50% fall fish they will start the count towards the quota. Make sure you turn in your fish heads at the boat ramps, they also can be left at a few of the rv parks and DFG will pick them up. The cooler weather this past week has lowered the water temperature on the lower river by about 5 degrees. This could help pull in some of the early fish. We are also going to see some more favorable tides starting this weekend. All things look great for the start of another fantastic run on the Klamath. Thanks Tim King

The fishing remains slow on the Klamath and the Trinity. We
expect this to change next week and should start to see a few
fish being caught on the lower Klamath. Here is the latest water
news hot off the presses. There are going to be releases of more
water from the Klamath and the Trinity. The Klamath flows August
1st to 15th 600cfs 16th to the 23rd 700cfs 24th to the 31st 900
cfs September 1st to the 30th 900cfs on the Trinity side August
23 ramping up to 1650cfs dropping 60cfs every 2 days to 1000cfs
on September 12 ramping down to 450cfs by September 15th. These
flows should help avoid another fish kill like we had 2 years
ago and should make for some fantastic fishing on the Klamath
and Trinity rivers. Thanks Tim King
