Current Report:
We have been fishing over on the
Trinity the last few days. The upper river above the south fork
is gin clear below that the river still has a little bit of
color to it. The fishing was pretty slow we fished both areas
and only landed 3 steelhead. There is a lot of boat traffic and
bank fisherman on the upper sections. The Smith has been
giving up a few steelhead over the last few days for boaters and
for plunkers. When we crossed over the Mad river on our way back
to the Smith believe it or not in was pretty green. We also
heard that the Van Dussen was in and seeing some decent numbers
of early steelhead. Thanks Tim

Current Report:
Some nice steelhead are making there
way up the Smith and the Trinity river. This is the start of 3
months of good steelhead fishing. Wally Johnson of Seiad valley
guide service and me went one for 2 a nice 12 pound buck. Gary
Farley and Rich Mossholder had 3 nice steelies Willie Plunket
had a couple and a few boats got skunked. The weather is
supposed to be clear all week with no rain in the forecast. The
river levels are perfect but with no rain will be dropping fast.
We will be fishing on the Trinity for the next few days . Thanks Tim
King

Current Report:
We received a little bit of rain
over the last 2 days just enough to bring the Smith up a little
and to help keep it green. The fishing remains about the
same with some nice steelhead being caught everyday. The rain
did not effect the Trinity and the whole river is in good shape
for steelhead fishing .My report page is getting very long. We
have not been putting up any pictures because of the time it
takes for the page to load for our dial up customers. We will be
archiving this page on December 31 and start all over along with
our photos page. Thanks Tim
King

Current Report:
Fresh steelies move in to the Smith.
The rivers are all in prime shape with some fresh steelhead
moving in. The big fish caught yesterday on the Smith by Alan
Borgoues was a beautiful 20 pounder. We did not here of any
salmon being caught looks like it is all but over for the kings
this year. The Trinity is in great shape also. The lower river
will have some nice fish as they move up out of the Klamath. The
weather looks good for the week with no really big storms
forecast just light rain. Thanks Tim
King
Date: Friday December 10, 2004 at 05:00 AM
Current Report:
The rivers are all on there way back
down. The upper Trinity river above the north fork is at a
good level for fishing. The lower river is still to high. The
Smith is starting to green up but is still to high for fishing
today .We will have to wait and see how much it drops in the
next 24 hours. No reports from the Mad river yet but you can bet
there are steelhead there these fish are used to mud.
There is more rain in the forecast for the weekend but not in
the amounts we received in the last 3 days. We got over 17
inches of rain in 3 days. Thanks Tim
King
Date: Wednesday December 8, 2004 at 08:00 AM

Current Report:
It started raining here in Smith
river at about 4:00 PM yesterday and it is still raining now at
8:00 Am. The Smith is running at over 60,000 cfs it was at
400 cfs 2 days ago. All this water should bring in some
steelhead when things calm down. The ocean is putting up some
huge swells in the 20 foot range this makes it hard for the fish
to enter the river the swells will be lying back down in a few
days. The upper Trinity is about the only place to fish right
now if you just have to get out and go. More rain is still in
the forecast for the rest of the week. We will keep you posted
as things change. Thanks Tim King

Date: Tuesday December 7, 2004 at 07:00 AM
Current Report:
Just what we needed. The storm came
in Wednesday afternoon and continued to dump rain on the north
coast all night. The Smith when from 400 cfs to 18,000 over
night completely blowing it out. The Trinity and Klamath are
also on the rise. More rain is forecast for the rest of the
week. On the Trinity side it has been a combination of
snow and rain .In Douglas city there was a few inches of fresh
snow this morning with more forecast for this evening .The
fishing will pick up after the rivers start to drop. Thanks Tim
King
Date: Monday December 6, 2004 at 08:00 AM
Current Report:
The north coast is finally seeing
some rain. The wind and rain started about 6:00am here in Smith
river and is forecast to continue into Wednesday. We have not
been out fishing for a few days we have been waiting for some
more fish to move in to the rivers before we start again. If
this series of storms produces enough run off to raise the river
levels we should see some fresh fish move up the Smith and the
Klamath then into the Trinity. The Smith has been producing some
decent numbers of salmon down at the piling hole. The Trinity is
good for a bunch of half pounders with a few adults mixed in.
That is about the only action going on at this time. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday November 30, 2004 at 06:00 PM
Current Report:
We had a first time fisherman and
woman on board for the last two days. The goal was to teach them
how to handle a spinning reel and a plug rod and try to land a
few steelhead. The conditions on the Trinity have been
very challenging with no rain and low and clear
conditions. We fished one day down low where there is ample room
to learn to cast and one day up above where the river is much
smaller and the fish are more concentrated. We accomplished most
of our goals and made some new fishermen out of some very nice
people. We landed a few steelhead but nothing of any big size. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday November 28, 2004 at 05:00 PM
Current Report:
Fishing was a little better today.
We landed some nice adults. One around 10lbs we caught all of
them pulling plugs. Side drifting roe produced all of our half
pounder action and one dark salmon looking for his last
meal. The weather is very cold. There was Ice on all the guides
and we had to keep dipping our reels in the water to keep the
drags from freezing solid . That's steelhead fishing. If
you haven't booked your steelhead dates yet now is the time to
do so. We offer trips on the Smith Trinity Eel or the Chetco . Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday November 27, 2004 at 06:00 PM
Current Report:
Today we landed 3 adult steelhead
and we hammered the half pounders making for a fun day of
fishing. All of the fish were caught side drifting roe. The
weather looks good for the next few days with a chance of rain
later in the week. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday November 26, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing on the Trinity for
steelhead is a little slow. We really need a good rain to
bring in some fresh fish from the ocean . Over the last few days
we have landed a lot of fish but most of them are half pounders
they are a blast to catch but are not very big in size . We
landed 2 nice fresh adult fish in the 8lbs range to round out
the day one was a hatchery hen the other a wild buck. The
pressure has really dropped off on the upper river due to the
slower fishing. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday November 20, 2004 at 05:00 AM
Current Report:
The Trinity and the Klamath are the
only rivers open to fishing at this time all the other coastal
river are subject to low flow closures and are closed at this
time. The Smith is open down below the 101 bridge and has been
giving up some really good numbers of salmon. Over the weekend
there was around 10 to 15 boats all anchored up together in the
most popular spots and most boats landed some good numbers of
fish. The Trinity is seeing a lot of pressure as it is the only
river that is a short drive and has quite a few steelhead for
this early in the year. We have been hooking lots of fish up to
twenty plus but most of them have been half pounders with
a few adults mixed in up to around 10lbs. When we do get some
rain look for the Smith to break wide open and the Trinity
steelhead action to pick up with adult fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday November 12, 2004 at 04:00 AM
Current Report:
We have been fishing on the Trinity
the last few days in some areas where there is less pressure. We
are targeting only steelhead and have been doing ok. The last
two days we landed 2 adults on both days .All the fish where
between 8 and 10 pounds. There are a ton of half ponders moving
thought the Klamath and the lower Trinity making for some good
action on smaller fish. I talked to Tommy at little Rays tackle
in Klamath Glen and he reports the action is decent on the
Klamath side they are still seeing some nice Coho move in
everyday along with a few steelhead and the half pounders.
I am sure your all tired of hearing this but we need some rain
to get things going over on the Smith. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday November 10, 2004 at 05:00 AM
Current Report:
The Smith is to low to drift the
only fishing going on here now is down in the estuary and a few
holes just above the 101 bridge. The Trinity is low also but it
is giving up some nice steelhead and a few salmon depending on
which section of river you are fishing. Same old story we really
need some rain. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday November 7, 2004 at 07:00 PM
Current Report:
The Smith is giving up pretty good
numbers of salmon a combination of jacks and adults. All the
rivers are low and clear at this time we really need some good
rain to get things going and bring in some more fresh fish. The
forecast is calling for a few showers on Tuesday lets hope its a
good one. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday November 4, 2004 at 07:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing on the Trinity has been
good the last few days. We have been catching some nice
steelhead and a few dark salmon to release back to spawn . We
also caught our first Coho on the Trinity side this week. There
is some rain in the forecast hopefully it will amount to a
couple of inches. It would really help out the costal rivers and
kick the smith in to high gear for some monster salmon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday October 29, 2004 at 07:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing is on cruise
control on the Trinity . We have fished in the upper river and
down low and the results are about the same. A few salmon and
steelhead . We really need some rain to stir things up a bit .
The river is at the lowest level I have ever seen it making for
very spooky fish. The Smith is giving up a few nice Salmon but
it too needs some rain to keep it going. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday October 27, 2004 at 05:00 PM
Current Report:
Spawning salmon . We saw lots of
salmon spawning in the river today. We hooked quite few and kept
one nice hen for the smoker. Most of the salmon on the Trinity
are way past there prime. They are fun to catch but not much
good for table fare. The main quarry has shifted over to
steelhead fishing. We are going to fish down lower tomorrow to
where there is some better steelhead water. The upper river is
in great shape but is a little low for side drifting roe,
although its perfect for fly fishing under an indicator. The
weather looks good through the weekend. I have a few dates
available over on the Smith for salmon during November. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday October 25, 2004 at 07:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing on the Trinity is pretty
good with good numbers of steelhead . The salmon are getting
dark but lots of fun to catch as they get ready to spawn. It is
raining here tonight and is going to continue for the next few
days. The rivers are all pretty low. Rain is just
what the doctor ordered to improve the fishing. The Smith and
the Chetco have been the place to be for some big salmon the
last few days if you are interested in catching a really big
fish this is the time of year to do it . Give us a call and we
will make it happen. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday October 23, 2004 at 05:00 AM
Current Report:
The Rain has been coming down
steadily since Friday afternoon on the north coast. The Smith
will again be the best bet for salmon fishing over the next few
days. The Trinity up above Junction city is a good for salmon
and steelhead. We will be back on the water on Monday. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday October 21, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
We
have been fishing on the Klamath since August 10
and today was the first day we got skunked in about 70 days of
fishing. Its time to move over to the Smith or upper Klamath or
the upper Trinity. It was a good season and I cant wait till
next year. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday October 20, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
The Smith is the place to be. The
action has broke wide open on the Smith with the recent rains
the big salmon are making there way up the river. We are running
our last trip on the Klamath on Thursday. We will be
switching over to our drift boat on Saturday . There is more
rain forecast for this weekend so the river should remain open. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday October 19, 2004 at 04:00 AM
Current Report:
We
have not been out on the water the last few days.
The weather has been pretty bad. The rain really is not that bad
to deal with it is the wind that makes for difficult fishing
conditions. The wind has been gusting up to 20 miles per hour
all night along with a few showers hopefully it will lay down
soon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday October 17 2004 at 08:00 AM
Current Report:
The fishing for King salmon is winding down on the lower Klamath
river. We are still seeing really good numbers of silver salmon
move in along with some really nice steelhead. The mouth of the
Klamath has made a big change towards the south side making it
easy for bank fisherman to catch some silvers or steelhead
. It started raining here Saturday afternoon and continues
to do so here on Sunday morning. We are still expecting some
more kings to arrive these will be the big fish that come up
late in the fall and spawn in the lower river all of these fish
must be released. With the rain we are getting this weekend I
expect this to be a pretty good week of fishing. There are a few
nice salmon being caught over on the Smith river down in the
estuary if we get a lot of rain over the next few days this
fishery will really take off. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday October 14, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
The
mouth is back open and more salmon and steelhead are on there
way. Yesterday was a tough one with the mouth
closed off their was no new fish moving through the lower
river. We struggled all day landing one adult and a bunch of
half pounders. Today when we launched the boat the water had
dropped at the boat ramp. Our numbers where much better we
landed 5 nice salmon 1 adult steelhead and a bunch of half
pounders. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday October 12, 2004 at 08:00 PM
Current Report:
More nice steelhead . The steelhead fishing continues to be ok
with some nice adults and a bunch of half pounders. The king
salmon fishing seems to be winding down we are still getting
some jacks but only a few adults. The Coho fishing is
pretty good you really have to target these fish they hold in
completely different areas.. All Coho must be released but they
put up a really good fight a lot like a steelhead . There may be
more kings on there way the mouth has been sanded in for the
last few days and the water has been backing up the river. The
glen rock is completely covered it looks like a big lake on the
lower river. When it breaks lose we might see a good push of
fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday October 11, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing is continues to cruise along on the Klamath. We
landed some nice salmon and a 10 pound wild steelhead today. The
weather is picture perfect cold in the mornings and hot in the
afternoon. If you would like to fish a whole river by yourself
now is the time to come. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday October 9, 2004 at 07:00 PM
Current Report:
Almost absolute solitude on the Klamath river. We started out at
Starwein this morning and worked our way up to Mey Tah we only
saw about 5 other boats in 30 miles of river. The fishing is
good, and as you can see from the pictures are fresh from the
ocean. We have a few days open in the Jet boat if you want a
shot at some nice fish. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday October 8, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
The last few days we have seen some pretty good action on the
Klamath river. We are still getting some nice King salmon
and a bunch of silvers. The silvers are one of the hardest
hitting fish in the river and put up a great fight. We have also
been picking up a few nice steelies the last few days. The
weather is calling for rain over the weekend then back to
sunshine for the rest of the week. I have a few openings
left on the Klamath if you still want to get in on the action
before we head over and start to drift the Trinity. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday October 5, 2004 at 05:00 PM
Current Report:
The Klamath continues to give up some nice salmon and steelhead.
There are still some fresh kings moving through the lower river
we will continue to fish here till things start to slow down. We
have also been catching a few silvers and a steelhead or
two. The girls won the bet today with the first fish of the day.
They had a blast trying to get it in the net. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday October 2, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
We have had the last two days off we will have a report up on
the Klamath Sunday night. The counts look good over on the
Trinity side at the willow creek weir they are seeing good
numbers of adults jacks and steelhead. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday September 29, 2004 at 05:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing has been changing daily the last two days. Yesterday
was the easiest day we have had all season. The fishing was
phenomenal ! We landed a fish on almost every drift we made .
Today was just the opposite. It was probably the toughest
day we have had all season. We struggled to get a bite
everywhere we went. Thanks Tim King

Date: Tuesday September 28, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
We didn't catch a lot of fish today. We went hunting for some of
those huge Klamath river 5 year old salmon that hang out by
themselves. This is the time of year when they start there runs
up the river . The big one that made it to the boat after a long
battle was a great fish. After a few pictures we released him to
carry on his journey home. Thanks Tim King

Date: Monday September 27, 2004 at 05:00 PM
Current Report:
An awesome day on the river. Things started out slow in the
morning the bite just had not really been happening. We moved
from hole to hole looking for some fish. At around 9:00 in the
morning we found them. It started with the first person in
the front of the boat landing a nice adult on the first drift
through. On the next three drifts it rotated down the boat with
every one landing a nice adult. For the next four drifts Ron got
every fish. The bite continued for about 2 hours
with us continually landing fish. A light breeze started to slow
down our drift so we pulled over for some lunch. At this time
another boat finally showed up big Joe. He landed a double on
his first pass. There is still plenty of fishing left on the
Klamath river. Thanks Tim King

Date: Sunday September 26, 2004 at 05:00 AM
Current Report:
Klamath still going strong. On Wednesday Billy Jesperson
was fishing for me and they had a really good day landing
some nice steelhead and some good King salmon. Thursday we were
off. Friday and Saturday the fishing remained pretty good
we again caught some nice steelhead and some nice adult salmon
with the jacks mixed in. The moss continues to be a
problem it seems like there is more of it now that there was a
week ago hopefully it will go away soon. Over on the
Trinity side the lower river below Willow creek is kicking out
some decent numbers of steelhead and salmon. The upper river is
still on the slow side on the salmon fishing but there are
a few steelhead around above Junction city. A few of the guides
have left the lower Klamath to start fishing in some other
areas. There is a few fish starting to show up in Hornbrook on
the upper Klamath and a few fish are being caught in the estuary
over on the Smith. Give us a call if you would like to get in on
the action on some of the other North Coast rivers. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday September 21, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
Two great days of fishing on the Klamath river. The fishing has
finally kicked in to a higher gear . We are seeing double digit
numbers of fish landed on most of the guide boats out on the
river the last few days. Lots of jacks and some really nice
adults are now being caught boondoggling bait. We also have been
landing some nice adult steelhead and a few Coho salmon
mixed in to make things interesting. The weather has been
picture perfect for fishing cold in the mornings and sunny in
the afternoon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday September 19, 2004 at 05:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing has been about the same the last few days. We are
starting to see some fresh fish move in from the ocean. It
has been raining the last few days and with the lower water
temperatures may signal for more salmon to start there migration
up the Klamath river. Thanks Tim King

Date: Friday September 17, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
The fishing has been tough the last few days. We just not have
been able to catch as many fish that the Klamath is famous for .
The main reason is all the moss floating down the river. The
fish are having to constantly move to keep it from going through
there gills. When a piece of bait comes by coated with moss the
last thing they are going to do is bite it. Persistence has been
the key and we have landed fish on each trip some nice
adults and jacks. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday September 15, 2004 at 03:00 PM
Current Report:
We had a short day on the river today to allow for their driving
time on there return trip to Reno. We fished for a few hours and
had a few Jacks and a few adults and called it a day. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday September 14, 2004 at 04:00 PM
Current Report:
We
had 3 anglers on board today. We seemed to be in the wrong place
every time the bite was on. We ended up with 6 adults and 1 jack
landed and we lost a few other ones. The river is dropping like
a rock from the flows on the Trinity being dropped down to
450 cfs. Hopefully this might help slow down some of the fish
moving up river and drop out some of the moss floating down the
river. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Sunday we had a good day. Hooking 14 fish and landing 9. Seven
of them were adults with 2 jacks. Today was jack day we landed 7
jacks and 2 adults . The river is full of moss when it
starts to drop out the fishing will get better. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
The fishing is starting to go red hot on the Klamath. We
had an awesome day fishing. We landed a lot of fish today and we
lost a lot of fish. The pulling of the nets has allowed the fish
to make there move upriver unimpeded .There is some rain
forecast for the coming week. Pull out the rain gear and get in
on this hot fishing. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
The fishing is really starting to pick up on the Klamath.
The commercial netting season for the Indians has been closed.
Almost everybody had a fantastic day the mood on the river was
great with every body hooking fish. Things should really start
to get cooking in the next few days. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
We had 3 boats out on the river today. The fishing was tough at
some spots and really good at some other ones. It really
depended on if you were there when the bite was on. So
everybody's score was a lot different. Two of us had good days
while one boat struggled. Luckily my boat was back on track
today. We would like to thank RMC lone star for a great
trip. Thanks Tim King

We had a couple of boats on the river today. Wally had the best
numbers he was landing fish in most of the spots we fished. My
boat struggled all day we ended up with 3 adults and 1 jack. It
is a pleasure to work with the best guides. I am very lucky to
be able to use them on our big trips. Hopefully fishing in my
boat will pick back up tomorrow. Thanks Tim King

The fishing continues to get better for us despite the added
pressure from the holiday weekend. The size of the fish that we
have been catching have increased over the last few days. There
are still a ton of jacks in the river and we released our first
Coho of the year. With the water flows dropping the fish have
been easier to catch and our numbers to the boat have increased. Thanks Tim King

Another great day salmon fishing on the Klamath river. We hooked
a lot more adults today . Again we hooked a nice fish on our
first drift in the morning . There were good biters at
most of the places we fished today. We has limits for everybody.
After releasing a bunch more we called it a day. Thanks Tim King

A very easy day for us on the Klamath river. We hooked a big
salmon on our first drift in the morning and we kept hooking
fish till we quit around noon. Most of the fish that we caught
were jacks with a few adults mixed in. With every body on
board having limits of salmon and the wind really starting to
kick up my clients decided to call it a day Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Things improved today the wind was not nearly as bad as
yesterday and some new fish are starting to move in. We landed a
really nice hatchery steelhead around 10 pounds 5 adult salmon
and a few jacks . We made a trip down to the mouth of the
Klamath on the out going tide but there was to many nets in the
river to fish the spot that we had wanted to
try. The good news is that we say lots of fish being netted as
more fresh fish are starting to moved in. Thanks Tim King

We give Honest reports on how the fishing is for a
particular day scores vary from boat to boat and the area they
are fishing. High winds and white caps on the river made for
some challenging fishing. We had 3 boats on the river again
today one boat had 2 jacks one boat had one adult salmon my boat
had 2 adults and one jack. We are all hoping for things to
improve tomorrow. Thanks Tim King

The water is high and the fish are all spread out which is
good for the fish but a little difficult to get some great
numbers in the boat. We had 3 boats on the river today and they
all caught some nice adult king salmon. My boat landed 3 adults
and one jack salmon plus a bunch of half pound steelhead.
Hopefully we will see some better numbers soon. Thanks Tim King

Tough bite for us today. Again we hooked some nice fish we
just could not get them to the boat. These fish are fresh from
the ocean and put up a really good fight. We did not hook as
many fish as the previous days we still managed one nice
steelhead a adult salmon a few jacks and a few half pounders. Thanks Tim King

Better quality of fish today. We hooked around 12 fish today but
only managed to land 6 of them. We had 5 salmon and one adult
steelhead. The water temperature is perfect at around 68
degrees. Hopefully we can improve tomorrow on the number of fish
we land. Thanks Tim King

The water has arrived on the lower Klamath river. The water
temperatures have dropped about 4 degrees down to 70.We had a
pretty good day hooking around 10 salmon and landing 7 the
biggest was about 12 lbs. We also hooked a bunch of steelhead .Thanks Tim King

The water is on its way from the Trinity river. The colder and
higher flows will bring the fish up out of the estuary to start
there run up the Klamath river. We expect the fishing to really
start to improve around Wednesday. The bite the last few days
has been a little tougher the water temps have been to high and
with the increased boat traffic made for lower catch rates over
the weekend. We are taking 2 days off and will be back on the
river on Wednesday. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
We landed a ton of steelhead today and a bunch of jack salmon.
The largest steelhead was about 8 lbs. The salmon are down in
the estuary and are waiting for some cooler water to start there
migration up river. The Indians are filling there commercial
quota and should be done netting soon. Looks like its going to
be a great year. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Moss, fish, nets,Lemurs. With the small increase in flows from the
upper Klamath the amount of moss has significantly increased in
the river. This will hurt the Indians as the moss really plugs
up there nets. The amount of netting activity has really
increased in the last few days down at the mouth as a few fish
are starting to move in with the good tides . We had a nice day
hooking lots of jack salmon and half pound steelies and a nice
adult salmon around 25 pounds. The big news of the day is we
spotted a Lemur today in the Klamath basin. These have not been
seen here for decades and are mostly limited to the coast of
Madagascar. There has been a small group living in the Rouge
river valley that are around a 100 miles west of the Klamath. We
snapped a few pictures of the one we saw. We are going to
discuss this unusual occurrence on a radio program AM1140 at
around 6:00 AM Saturday morning please tune in for all the
details. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Thanks to every one body who has been calling and e mailing .We
saw more dead fish on Monday than we have seen all week. They
are floating on the surface and tumbling down the sand near the
bottom of the river. Unfortunately there where no employees out
on the water from the fish and wild life service to see the
increased numbers of dead fish. The BOR is stating that
they are waiting for the department of fish and game to
recommend higher flows which has already been done. They have
started to increase flows by 100 cfs on the Klamath side but
they decreased the flows on the Trinity side by 50 cfs.We will
start reporting on how the fishing is going tomorrow. Thanks Tim King
Hey
Tim,
My name is and I work for the BOR in their fisheries Dept.
Although we fish heads all know the current status of the
Klamath and are very concerned, the BOR is controlled by
engineers and politicians that are not so concerned. This is
very unfortunate for the fish in the Klamath and Trinity rivers.
We in the fisheries dept have made repeated requests year in and
year out for more water but unfortunately this tends to fall on
deaf ears. You are very right, the only way to get them to hear
us is to bombard them with phone calls and e-mails from the
public. So I thought I might make a donation to your cause. Here
are some e-mail addresses I thought you might want to post on
your sight---Kirk Rodgers e-mail is KRODGERS@mp.usbr.gov and
Dave Sabos is DSABO@mp.usbr.gov However, we at gov facilities
are sometimes not allowed to open mail from the general public
so you may want to recommend that they e-mail- Regional_Director@mp.usbr.gov
along with the other two addresses two ensure that our voices
are heard loud and clear.
Also, Maybe you should share your concerns with the media, that
will really get them moving, there's nothing the BOR hates more
than having the media at their door step with cameras in their
face asking why the fish are dying.
P.S. you did not get those addresses from me.

Current Report:
Over
the last few days we have been asking you to call the DFG and ask them
to send more water down the Klamath River. The response has been
tremendous. The DFG has been working hard on getting more water for the
Klamath. They have had people out on the river monitoring it every day.
We would like to thank them for supporting the sport fisherman and the
tribal fisheries. But now we need to help them out. Their voices have
been falling on deaf ears. The Bureau of Reclamation does not care about
the fish or have any people out on the river daily. But they are the
ones in charge of managing the water release from the dams. They have
turned their backs on the sport and tribal fisherman of the Klamath and
Trinity Rivers. The water temperature today was 74 degrees in the lower
Klamath. Way too hot to support fish. All the fish that are here are
concentrated in one area below Blue creek in the 1 or 2 degree cooler
water from the flow of the creek. We netted a few dead fish that were
floating down the river and both had signs of gill rot. In this warm
water and with all the fish concentrated in a few areas it will spread
to all the fish and kill them all. The Bureau of Reclamation gave the
farmers 100 percent of their full water deliveries this year while they
cut the flows down the Klamath River for the fish. It’s still not too
late. There is water in Iron Gate Reservoir and Trinity Lake that can be
released to save your fish from dying a useless death. The US Fish and
Wild life also needs to make recommendations to release more water now.
Their current plan from the BOR is to release some water starting on
August 23 from the Trinity and the Klamath on the 15th. The amount from
the Klamath is so small that it will have absolutely no effect on the
fish. This is totally unacceptable. We need everybody to make a few
phone calls or emails. Let them know they must release water now -
Monday morning - to save the fish in the lower Klamath. Also they need
to sustain these flows through September 15th to avoid killing them a
few weeks from now on their migration up the river. Please join us with
the Department of Fish and Game in recommending higher flows on the
Klamath now. The numbers to call are all employees of the BOR. The head
Cheese for the state of Calif. Kirk Rodgers 916-978-5103. Tell him to
release water now. Dave Sabo541-883-6935 is in charge of the Klamath
River basin. Tell him to open the gates today. Jim Bryant 541 883-6935.
Also call your Senators, they can put pressure on the BOR to release
the water. Please make a few phone calls today, Monday morning from
work or on your cell phones. It is extremely important we get more
water. You can also check out
www.usafishing.com. They have some good information on the subject.
Make sure you check out the picture of the dead fish. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
A tough bite this morning on the Klamath. Things picked up in
the afternoon and we managed to land 5 nice steelhead. We did
see one boat with a nice salmon. The mouth is very crowded with
the Indians fishing for their commercial catch. There are nets
everywhere making for difficult fishing conditions. The Klamath
has been unusually clear for this time of year but that is about
to change. We saw the first signs of moss floating down the
river today. When they increase the water flow from the dam on
August 15th it will break off a ton of moss that has grown
on the rocks all summer. The end result is the water turns more
of a shade of green and the moss collects on the Indians nets
showing up under water like a green matt. This will make a lot
more work for them to be able to net fish. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
The steelhead fishing remains good on the lower Klamath. There
are a few Salmon being caught also. We managed to land 2 and
lost a really nice one right at the net about a 25 pound fish.
The water temperature is still too high for any big pushes of
salmon to start their run up river. Look for things to start to
get better with the water releases about the 15th of August.
Until then it will be mostly steelhead with a few salmon mixed
in. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Steelhead fishing is picking up on the lower Klamath. The last
few days the steelhead bite has been pretty good. The lower
water temperatures are the reason for the good action. These are
adult fish running about 5 to 8 lbs. Fly fishing or tossing
spoons and side drifting bait has been the hot ticket to hooking
these great summer run steelies. The salmon fishing
remains slow with a few fish being caught down at the mouth and
up at Blue creek. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
The Klamath is set to break open for the start of the fall run.
The DFG fish counters will be at the boat ramps starting Friday.
They will be examining the heads of the fish to determine
if it is a fall fish or a Springer. How do you tell them apart?
The hatchery fish have a tag in their head that can be scanned.
It is very important that they do not count spring run fish
toward the quota of the fall run. Once the number of fish being
scanned reaches over 50% fall fish they will start the count
towards the quota. Make sure you turn in your fish heads at the
boat ramps, they also can be left at a few of the rv parks and
DFG will pick them up. The cooler weather this past week
has lowered the water temperature on the lower river by about 5
degrees. This could help pull in some of the early fish. We are
also going to see some more favorable tides starting this
weekend. All things look great for the start of another
fantastic run on the Klamath. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
The fishing remains slow on the Klamath and the Trinity. We
expect this to change next week and should start to see a few
fish being caught on the lower Klamath. Here is the latest water
news hot off the presses. There are going to be releases of more
water from the Klamath and the Trinity. The Klamath flows August
1st to 15th 600cfs 16th to the 23rd 700cfs 24th to the 31st 900
cfs September 1st to the 30th 900cfs on the Trinity side August
23 ramping up to 1650cfs dropping 60cfs every 2 days to 1000cfs
on September 12 ramping down to 450cfs by September 15th. These
flows should help avoid another fish kill like we had 2 years
ago and should make for some fantastic fishing on the Klamath
and Trinity rivers. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Here is the latest fishing reports for the Trinity and the
Klamath rivers. The spring run on the Trinity has slowed down. Only a few fish are being caught and most are starting to darken
up a bit. There are a few fresh fish moving up but not many at
this time. The steelhead fishing is pretty slow also. You will
be working really hard for a shot at very few fish. We've been
fishing the Klamath for the last two days, and it has been
pretty slow here too. We started out trolling
spinners at the mouth targeting salmon and steelhead in the last
2 days We did not see a fish landed in the lower section below
the 101 bridge. We also fished up river by Blue Creek for
steelhead and the action was slow there with only one steelhead
landed. Right now the water Temperature is 74 degrees.. way to hot
for the fish to hang out . There has been some good numbers of
fish coming in from the ocean. They hang out in the estuary for a
while before deciding to stay or go back out .A few days ago
there were some pretty good numbers of fish caught. At this time
of the year you really have to have a little luck and be there
when the fish have come in. As we get later into August the
number of fish starting their run will really improve. The
Department of water resources the DFG and the BLM are
working on a plan to send some more water down the Trinity and
the Klamath. The release dates have not been made public yet nor
has the amount of water. Friends of the Cal-Ore fish just got
through fixing the boat ramp and installing new docks at the
boat launching facility in Klamath Glen. We owe them a big thanks!
If you are not a member please sign up. Their web page is

They do lots of good things to promote the enhancement of salmon
and steelhead. Thanks Tim King

We got off to a late start this morning. We needed few salmon
cards before we could fish and we ended up being the last boat
to launch. We skipped a lot of water to get down where we could
find some water where nobody was fishing . It paid off for us.
We got a nice salmon for Valerie and her husband Michael. The
fishing is just a little on the slow side. We have caught fish
on every trip, just not large numbers of them. Thanks Tim King

Another nice day drifting the Trinity river. The fishing was
decent today. We didn't hook a ton of fish, but the action was
better than the last few days. There was a lot of pressure on
the water today. We were the first boat off the trailer to hit
the water and it paid off with our first hook up of the day
coming at our first stop . After a nice fight we lost it right
at the boat. We ended up hooking a few more and landing 2.
Hopefully things will continue to improve. Thanks Tim King

What a beautiful day on the river. It was Xavier's turn to try
and hook and land his first salmon. The bite was pretty slow for
us today so he had to make every bite count. When his rod went
down he set the hook and the fight was on! After several minutes
he landed his first salmon. Things have slowed down over the
last few days. The DFG has just put the fish counting weir in
place and I suspect that it is holding up the fish from moving
upriver. Hopefully things will improve tomorrow . Thanks Tim King

Today I fished with my good friend and deck hand Steve Peterson.
We both had the day off so we decided to try out a new area that
we have not fished since last year. We hooked 5 nice fish and
landed 3 of them which we released back into the river. Overall
the Trinity is in great shape the fish are moving up river every
day bringing new opportunity's every few hours. The lower
sections of river are now to warm to hold fish look to the upper
sections for the best action. Thanks Tim King

We had a blast fishing today. Ken and Shawn fish with me every
year. Last year Shawn got the big fish. This year it was Ken's
turn . We had just let our plugs out and I had started to row
down through the hole when Kens rod got slammed after a nice
battle we netted the big fish of the day. The water level is
just about at the summer flow rate we should see things
stabilize in the next few days and the fishing improve. Thanks Tim
King.

Our numbers were a little lower today . The fishing started out
real good. We had 2 fish by six o'clock and I thought we were
going to have a great day then the bite just went away. We
managed to hook 3 more fish but we did not land any of them. I
think the fish are adjusting to the lower water flows and the
bite will come back on soon. Thanks Tim King

An awesome day on the Trinity, the river is full of fish. We
went 7 for 12 today and we had one nice double! These guys came
ready to rip some lips when they got bit and they swung their
rods like Bobby Bonds. If it connected we had them hooked up. At
one point both guys swung at once and we had 2 nice kings hooked
up. We were able to land both of them. There are some really
nice summer run steelhead starting to make their way up the
Trinity. We will start to target some of the fish on our salmon
trips in the next few days. The big news of the day is the
ruling to put more water down the river. The battle seems to
have been won and the only appeals left is the supreme court.
They are showing no interest in hearing the case. This is a big
win for the salmon and steelhead runs on the Trinity and the
lower Klamath . I will be in Sacramento for the next 2 days
fighting for more fish for the sport fisherman on the Klamath
and Trinity rivers. I will update my report when I return
fishing. Thanks Tim King

It was a special day on the Trinity. We welcomed another member
to the great sport of salmon fishing. We started out with only
one goal today, to get Matt his first salmon. He had to do it
unaided by me or his dad. It took 7 tries to make it happen
lucky fish number 7. For the seventh time Matt got bit and set
the hook and when the fish took off we knew it was a good one
and the fight was on. Matt was unwavering in his constant
reeling whether the fish was coming or going to get this
one to the boat. We finally landed lucky fish number 7 a
beautiful female! Matt even did the honor of dispatching her to
her place in the fish box. Our numbers were not great
today we ended up going 2 for 9 but fishing is not about numbers
its about being a sportsman and enjoying the great outdoors.
Welcome to the club Matt it was a great day. Thanks Tim King

flow rate of 450cfs. The fishing should remain good with more
fresh fish on the way. Thanks Tim King

We
increased our scores today in spite of the added pressure from
the weekend . We hooked 6 nice salmon and landed 4 of them. The
bite is definitely better in the morning its all over and
done by 11:00 am. We have been catching our fish on roe and back
trolling kwickfish in the deeper holes. The water level was
noticeable lower this morning but it seems to not be having any
effect on the way the fish are biting. We will be back on the
water on Monday. Thanks Tim King

The
fishing is ok on the Trinity. It seems that it doesn't matter
what area you fish, you are going to have a shot at a couple of
nice fish and you had better make them count. We would like to
see our numbers higher but it just has not happened the last few
days. The water will start to drop on July 8th and this should
help our numbers increase as the fish bunch up with the lower
flows. The Klamath is having Jet boat racing over the 4th of
July weekend and fishing will be all of impossible except in the
very early morning. We will be at Klamath Glen over the weekend
to attend the wedding of Murray Wolf and Bonnie Allen. Hope
everyone has a safe and happy 4th. Thanks Tim King

Our first day back on the beautiful
Trinity river went good. We got a couple of fish and
missed one other nice grab. The Flows are still a little high
making it easy for the fish to hold in a bunch of different
areas as we locate their spots. Hopefully our numbers should
increase. The spring run on the Klamath is all but over with
very few fish being caught. It was a pretty slow spring
season. The run never really got going for big numbers of fish
being caught. During the month of July we will be targeting
Trinity river springers, and also we will be over on the
Sacramento river towards the end of July and the first part of
August. I still have a few dates available on both rivers.

The fishing has improved on the
Klamath and the Trinity rivers for spring salmon. Most boats are
hooking into 3 or 4 fish per trip on the Klamath landing them is
another story these fish fight hard. They are fresh right out of
the salt and put up some exciting action. We hooked 4 today and
only landed one. The Trinity is starting to show some light with
some of the fish pushing up out of the Klamath the best action
has been down below grays falls. The action will get going as
soon as the water level drops below 2000 cfs and the fish reach
the upper river. Thanks Tim King

The
fishing on the Klamath and Trinity remains slow . The spring run
just has not gotten underway in numbers of fish that make for a

has been some pretty big tides this last week and this might
have affected the fish trying to enter the river. We took
Walley's boat out to shake out the cob webs and check out the
springers on the Klamath here are the fish that we caught in 2
days of fishing with his family and friends. Thanks Tim

The fishing is still slow
on the Trinity. The Indians down in Hoopa are starting to
see there nets fill up the fish are on there way
and should be here in good
numbers in about a week. The water is still very high making
it easy for the fish to move up river it also spreads the
fish out across the river making fishing more difficult .
The water levels are dropping and this will improve the
fishing also in the next few weeks. The fishing on the
Klamath has been up and down so far this season hopefully
things will improve there soon. We went abalone diving this
weekend on some of the lowest tides for the season and we
had great success we picked one almost 10 inches like
landing a 25 pound steelhead it doesn't happen very often.

reports of some springers being caught on the lower Klamath but
there is not a lot of boat traffic on the river yet. The Trinity
will start to drop soon and that will clear up the Klamath and
the scores of fish will increase. The Trinity will soon be

The Trinity
is on the rise. It is great to see that much water flowing down
the river for the spring run off the river will continue to be
high in to June. The spring salmon are on there way with a few
reports of fish being caught in the last few days over on the
Klamath. We are headed that way on Monday and will let you know
how the action is from there. The Klamath quotas from the fish
and game came out this week and it is not good the river will
close to the take of adult fish early this year we cant say when
because it all depends on how well the ocean sport fishing fleet
does if they don’t catch any fish in the ocean they will roll
those fish over to the Klamath and the Trinity to be harvested.
We will still be able to keep jacks during the whole season and
catch and release the big adults so they can head up river to
spawn. This is important to keep enough fish in the river to
keep the runs going on the lean years. They are actually calling
for a real good run this year there will be some real big fish
caught later in September and October when the 5 year old fish
arrive. The fishing will be fantastic on the Klamath and the
Trinity right up to the close of the season in November we will
be landing a lot of fish for catch and release and a few jacks
for the barbeque. If you have not booked your favorite guide for
salmon season now is the time these are real popular fishing
trips and the top guides and motels fill up fast. Thanks Tim

Below I have provided the flow
schedule for the Trinity River from Bureau of Reclamation.
It looks like we will have a nice flushing of the river in May
settling back down at the beginning of June just in time for the
start of the Springer Season. Spring King Salmon are the
best eating fish of the Northwest rivers and some of the
fiercest fighting and always a challenge on light tackle from a
drift boat. Last year the fish arrived on June 22, take a
look at last years fishing reports,
and I would expect they will be here earlier this year with the
increased flows throughout May. I am currently taking
reservations for Spring Salmon in early June. Remember the
salmon/steelhead season is open year round now under the new DFG
regulations for the Trinity River. Thanks Tim King
CENTRAL VALLEY PROJECT
Reclamation releases new
Trinity River flow schedule
News release, U.S. Bureau
of Reclamation Mid-Pacific Region - 4/29/04
A Ninth
Circuit Court ruling on April 23 significantly increased the
volume available to the Trinity River . The Court's ruling
came as a result of a request from the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
In December 2002, U.S. District Court Judge Oliver Wanger
limited the available volume of water to 453,000 acre-feet
pending completion of a final Supplemental Environmental
Impact Statement/Report. The Ninth Circuit Court's ruling,
in response to the emergency motion, increased that volume
to 647,000 acre-feet for this year.
The newly
revised 2004 flow schedule will be finalized by the
Department of the Interior, based on a recommendation made
by the Trinity Management Council to achieve a wide variety
of physical and biological objectives. This schedule will
not only benefit smolt (juvenile salmon and steelhead)
growth and survival in late spring and early summer, but
will also achieve substantial geomorphic benefits by
flushing large accumulations of fine sediment that have been
deposited over the past two years, move and redeposit
gravel, and scour 1-2 year old riparian vegetation that has
re-encroached along the channel's edge, all of which will
improve habitat conditions throughout the system.
Under the
newly approved flow schedule, current releases from Lewiston
Dam to the Trinity River will continue at 300 cubic feet per
second (cfs) through Tuesday, May 4, ramp up to 2,500 cfs by
Thursday, May 6, and then continue up to 6,000 cfs by
Sunday, May 16. The schedule calls for these releases to
continue at 6,000 cfs from May 16 through Tuesday, May 25,
gradually ramping down to 2,000 cfs by June 18, and finally
reaching the summer base level of 450 cfs by July 22.

flow release schedule is available online at Reclamation's

Current Report:
We where
back fishing the ditch in Colusa for stripers the last few days.
The conditions where tough and catches varied every day. The
flows are way down and the water temperature is in the high 60
degrees area about 10 degrees to high for optimal fishing
conditions. The stripers will start to spawn when the
temperature is about 61 degrees and start there run back out of
the Sacramento to the ocean. Our best day this week was 12 fish
our worst day was Sunday there was a ton of boat traffic for the
derby and we only managed one fish to the boat. The good news is
about the Klamath and Trinity they are going to be releasing
more water down the Trinity this year than they have in the last
5 years. The flow schedule should be out next week. Thanks Tim
King

Current Report:
We
have been taking some time off from fishing to take care of some
things here in Douglas city. We talked to Kittles in
Colusa and they are reporting good numbers of fish being caught.
We will be back on the river soon. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday, April 09, 2004 at 06:05 PM
Current Report:
The fishing
was a little tougher today the river had come up 5 feet from
yesterday and the conditions where bad. We fished hard to find a
few fish in a few spots. Things should stabilize in the next few
days and we should be able to get some better numbers in the
boat. We ended up landing 3 of 5 Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
We had
another nice day on the Sacramento River striper fishing.
The fish we caught today were in the 4 to 7 pound range the
bite was a little slow in the morning but things had picked
up pretty good by 10:00 o’clock and the action stayed solid.
The river started to rise in the after noon and the bite
just turned off. We will have to see what tomorrow brings.
Thanks Tim King

Date: Wednesday, April 07, 2004 at 06:05 PM
Current Report:
The Colusa
area is still fishing good with almost every boat seeing limits
of stripers brought in. Most of the fish are 4 to 10 pounds just
the right size to keep. The Bureau of reclamation has started to
release more water out of lake Shasta they are doubling the
releases from 6000cfs up to 13000cfs the water will reach the
Colusa area in a few days and reach the Delta over the weekend
we will have to wait and see what it does to the river
conditions I expect it to muddy up quite a bit and the water
temperature will lower a few degrees. The lower water
temperature will put the fish in a holding pattern stripers like
to spawn in water that is 58 to 61 degrees the muddy water
will make fishing conditions tough we will update you as soon as
the water arrives on the changing conditions . Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
The Stripers
are here. The Colusa area is kicking out some pretty good
numbers of fish. Me and Wally Johnson have been over there
fishing for the last 5 days and there was solid action on almost
every day. We all went to the meeting in Sacramento on Friday to
discuss the Klamath and Trinity fishing quotas Then a bunch of
us headed back over to fish the evening bite in Colusa we had a
great time landing some nice fish with all the guides kidding
each other on there fishing abilities. The striper fishing
should continue to be good as the run is just getting started we
will keep you up to date on the action. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
A call
for action! The Department of Fish and Game Commission is
holding a meeting in Sacramento on Friday to decide the Klamath
and Trinity fish quotas for the 2004 season. They have shifted a
lot of the in-river quotas over to the commercial trollers in
the ocean. If you want to be able keep an adult fish on
the Klamath or the Trinity you need to show up and voice your
complaints about the quotas to the DFG Commission. If you
don't let your voice be heard at the meeting you had better get
ready for a catch and release salmon season! I will be
there and I hope you will be too! See you there. Thanks

We had
another decent day fishing the Trinity. For the last few days we
seem to be losing all of our big fresh fish we ended up landing
4 and lost 3 nice ones after some real nice battles not to bad a
day for the end of March again we were the only boat on the
river. The river is still a great shade of green. I wish the
river was a little lower the fish are pretty spread out there
are lots of places for them to be holding at this height. Thanks
Tim King

Current Report:
The Trinity
is still hanging in there with a few fresh fish. On Saturday we
landed 6 a mixture of downers and some fresh up runners. Today
we landed 4 and lost 2 nice fresh fish that we just couldn’t get
control of we watched them jump and make a few runs before they
kicked our butts and swam away . We will try and get them
tomorrow. The lower river is in great shape and is a nice shade
of green we have been the only boat on the water on the whole
river. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Today was
not as good as the yesterday but we still landed 4 nice adult
steelhead. The visibility is perfect with about 3 feet and a
nice green color to it. We have been running my Jet boat on some
of these steelhead trips with no other boats on the river we are
able to make really long drifts and multiple passes through the
runs resulting in more fish at the end of the day. Thanks Tim
King

Current Report:
What a
difference a day makes we landed 7 nice steelhead today Jim
Johnson a long time customer has figured it out go fish in
late March when nobody is fishing and land a bunch of
steelies . Most of the fish are what we would call blue
backs they are not big fish most run from 6 to 8lbs are
chrome bright and full of fight. No pictures today my camera
battery was dead. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 11:35 PM
Current Report:
The Trinity
is fishing ok we went 4 for 6 today the flows are still high and
the color is still a little dirty on the lower runs The water is
a lot clearer above the South fork. We don’t have any openings
left for steelhead season in my boat but we can set you up with
some great guides on the Eel or Trinity for the last two
weeks of there season. The Trinity will not be closing on March
31 it will remain open all year we will be switching over to
striper fishing on April 2 from my Jet boat I still have some
good dates available for these trips . Thanks Tim King

Date: Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 07:35 PM
Current Report:
The Trinity River is dropping back
down to fishable levels they have begun to lower the flows from
the dam at the current level of 2000cfs to the normal winter
flow of 300cfs. The south fork is still too high but is dropping
also. The Trinity has in the years passed had good fishing
during March. The Eel is fishing good on the south fork and if
the rains hold off look for the main stem to become fishable
sometime this week. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 08:37 PM
Current Report:
The Eel is the place to be fishing
for the foreseeable future the south fork is in shape down to
the main and the main will clear soon if the weather stays
clear. The Trinity is still to high from releases at the dam and
the south fork has been on a slow rise from the snow melt.
Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
Here's the low down on the rivers,
the Trinity is still high, the fishing on the Smith is pretty
slow not a lot of fish being caught but smiling Phil landed a 25
ponder this week. The Eel is probably the best bet, it usually
fishes good in March and is clearing down towards the main stem.
The weather picture still looks good for the coming week. Thanks
Tim king
Date: Friday, March 05, 2004 at 04:32 PM
Current Report:
The Trinity is still high on the
upper river but the color is great we have not been out fishing
the last few days so we have no report of how many fish are
there at this time. The lower river is slowly coming down from
the twenty foot mark it needs to hit 16 feet before it will
really start to fish well. The south fork of the Trinity is
coming down slowly too with the flows down to around 3000 cfs
look for it to start fishing good around 2000 to 1500 . The
South fork of the Eel is green above bear pin but the level
there is pretty high also looks like most of the river will be
dropping into good conditions over this weekend. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday, February 29, 2004 at 05:32 PM
Current Report:
The Trinity is starting to drop
back into shape the upper river still remains high at 2000cfs
but the lower river is down to 20 ft on the gauge. The south
fork of the Trinity is coming into shape also with the flows
down to about 4000 below Hyampom. The weather forecast hasn’t
looked this good all winter no rain is forecast for this week it
should let the river drop back down to fishable levels soon.
The Eel should also be coming in this week the south fork will
clear first and if the weather holds we could see boats make it
on to the main stem also. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday, February 26, 2004 at 06:02 PM
Current Report:
The Trinity
remains to high to fish effectively and still has to much color
to it below Douglas city the ramp at rush creek is your only
possibility if you don’t mind sitting in a drift boat for 8
hours in the same place and then rowing back to the takeout you
can pick up a few fish there at the mouth of rush creek. We went
over to the Chetco in Oregon and fished and had a pretty good
day we caught some up runners and some down runners if you’re
interested in some steelhead like these give me a call and we
will get you set up. Congratulations to the winning team of the
perk derby Kevin and Mike are good fisherman. There will be a
Perk Derby on the Klamath this year for salmon if your
interested let me know We will keep you updated on the Trinity
when it drops back down the steelhead fishing should be good .
Thanks Tim King

Date: Monday, February 23, 2004 at 07:02 PM
Current Report:
The Trinity continues to have too
much turbidity to fish with any success. The problem is the
lakes are colored up also you can see from the pictures that
Lewiston lake the after bay of Trinity lake is pretty green
also you can see that Trinity lake is almost full and the
discharge from the power house is pea green. Until the lake
settles out and the water clears up coming out of the dam the
Trinity will remain un-fishable. We saw this happen in 97 it
continued in to Springer season but by that time the river only
had a little color in it and it actually helped us catch more
fish that year. They are calling for another big storm this week
to hit the North coast we will keep you updated on the river
conditions. One good thing about the high water is that it gives
the steelhead good access to all the creeks allowing them to get
in spawn and get back to the main river and start there trip
back to the ocean this will be good for the steelhead fishing in
the long run. Thanks Tim King

The flows
continue to be high and the Trinity River still has to much
color to fish effectively and with more rain on the way I don’t
look for any thing to change here soon. The Smith and the Chetco
are fishing well at this time the Eel is still out there is a
chance that the rains will stay north of there and the south
fork will drop into shape. Thanks Tim King

We rescheduled our trip
for today it has been
raining all morning and
the gals decided to try on
another day when they
didn’t have to get wet.
The Weather pictures looks
bad for the next few days
all the rivers are on the
rise. They are calling for
a flood watch on some of
the north coast rivers it
could get pretty ugly if
we get a warm rain with
the good snow pack we have
in the mountains. We are
supposed to get hit really
hard Monday and into
Tuesday we will keep you
up to date on the river
conditions as they change.

Nothing like yesterday the
weather went bad on us
today and we moved pretty
fast down the river. The
wind was gusting up to 35
mph at times its hard to
get a good drift when your
lines have big bows in
them. We did put a few
fish in the boat and there
were the suicidal half
pounders that will smack
your bait no matter where
you have it in the water.
They are calling for a
few showers tonight and
hopefully the wind will
lie down before tomorrow.

WOW! The fishing on the
Trinity River is Hot we
landed over 10 nice adult
steelhead and a bunch of
half pounders today. Look
at the pictures these are
fresh fish just entering
the river and they are
line smokers. We caught
all our fish on side
drifted roe and a fish
pill with a splash of
yarn. Larry lost the big
fish of the day right at
the boat after chasing it
down river and a few
awesome jumps. The river
is in great shape but
still a little high we are
supposed to get a shot of
rain tomorrow hopefully
not much we don’t need any
right now. Thanks Tim King

my birthday from guiding
and went fishing for my
self with some good
friends and fellow guides.
My reports will start
again tomorrow from the
lower Trinity The river is
finally In down below it
is still a little high but
is dropping fast. The
upper river is low and
clear and the number of
fish being caught where
dropping when I left. The
Eel is in on the south
fork Murray Wolf has been
getting some good numbers
over there the last few
days the smith is low and
clear and still kicking
out some nice fish the
chetco is in good shape
and has been fishing well
also. Thanks Tim King

The fishing has slowed
down a bit the last few
days on the Trinity River
but things started to pick
back up today. We did not
have a great day but at
least the fish were biting
we ended up landing 3 and
we lost another one as it
did the steelhead leaps
and throw the hook thing
it was the big fish of
the day also. I think
things will really start
to pick up in the next few
days when some lower runs
start to get fishable we
should see our numbers of
fish caught go up and
there size should be
bigger also. Thanks Tim

The fishing was
interesting today we
started out with two fish
on first thing in the
morning we lost them both.
Then the river started to
turn a dark green our
visibility went to about a
foot and we couldn’t buy a
fish for a long time we
switched over to pulling
plugs on the current edges
and still no luck. Then
the river cleared back up
and we landed 3 turns out
they where dumping some
spawning gravel in the
river for the spring run
off and it caught up with
us and put the bite off
when things cleared the
bite was back on. We ended
up 3 for 5 not bad
considering the conditions
we faced today. The
weather looks great for
the week I think we will
be able to drift the lower
river later this week it
will be the first time
this year that it is in
good enough shape to fish
hope the weather holds.

rescheduled to a snow
storm that blew in Sunday
evening today was a little
better Johnny went 4 for 4
today and we got off the
water at 1:00 pm not bad
for a short day. The
fishing is still good we
are seeing a mix of fresh
fish and some fish that
have there full blown
spawning colors they are
beautiful. The weather

today it paid off for Mark
we landed a Trinity River
Hog it’s the biggest we
have landed this season on
the Trinity I am not going
to guess the weight we
took a few shots and
released the fish back
into the river. We had a
great day going 6 for 8
despite the fact that
there were a few more
boats on the water today
we also missed a few take
downs. The weather is
supposed to change Sunday
night they are calling for
a significant storm to
move in we will have to
see how the river hold up.
We are heading over to the
south fork tomorrow I hate
to leave fish when we have
been so consistent lately
but maybe we will hit it
just right and score some
big numbers on super bowl

on the Trinity. Days like
this make my job easy I

started out good and just
kept going though most off
the day. Dennis was my
second boat out today he
ended up 9 for 10 combined
we where 19 for 24 it
doesn’t get much better
for four friends fishing
together. Bob and Erick
where great guys to fish
with Bob hooked the big
fish of the day we all had
a good look at her before
she made a couple of big
runs she then acted like
we might land her and she
took off again this time
she wrapped around a tree
and sawed our line into
none of us could believe
that we had lost her we
where all in shock the big
ones are tough to land.
Erick had a great day
landing the biggest
steelhead he had ever
caught. The river is in
great shape above the
south fork I would like to
see it just a tad higher
on the upper sections. We
are forecast for some
light rain this week it

going strong. Thanks Tim

this week maybe this will
shake things up a bit. The
river above the south fork
is in great shape if
anything it is a tad on
the clear side the south
fork in Hyampom is in good
shape but it colors up by
the time it gets to sandy
bar if the lower Trinity
ever drops to 15 on the
gauge it will be time to
move down there. The south
fork of the Eel has been
in we will have to wait
and see how much rain they
get over in Garberville
the East branch is always
the first to go leaving
only cooks valley as the
place to drift. The Smith

fishing pretty good we
only have February and

only one rod in the water
the fish where from 12 to
8 lbs. We also had 2 other

drifting some really fast
water on a bend and Jordan
hooked in to a nice one we
had to drag it down the
river to some soft water
to land it he handled it
perfectly. The bite was a
little tougher today I
think we went 5 for seven
we had one really nice
fish that fought us for a

took turns at reeling her

and down river to where
we find some calmer water
to land it in. We hooked
our second fish around
2:00 o'clock and that
turned out to be our last
fish landed we missed a
few but overall it was a
pretty slow day. The river
is dropping fast down in
Hoopa and if the weather

down there soon. Chris
Walker called to let me

Current Report:
The fishing on the
Trinity is ok but has
slowed a bit from last
week. We fished today
under a steady rain in the
Junction city area most
boats where landing a few
fish using bait and
pulling plugs the bite was
pretty tough. The weather
is supposed to clear up
for the next few days and
this last storm did not
affect the river height
that much we may be able
to get down and fish on
the lower Trinity where i
think the fishing will be
better later in the week.

We had
another good day on the
Trinity river these guys
can fish . Whatever I
suggested would be the
best method for hooking
fish in the area that we
where fishing they where
willing to do it . We
hooked fish on fly's on
plugs and spin fishing. We
had a short day we had to
be off the river by noon
we ended up with 4 that we
landed and we missed a
couple of other ones not
bad for a half day. The
weather still looks good
for the coming week all
the rivers should be
fishing good (Trinity;
Smith) look for the Eel to
come in later in the week.

Current Report:
Today was
not a barn burner but it
was decent fishing. The
river is still pretty high
we fished in the Douglas
city area and landed some
nice steelhead and missed
a few others. We were
using all different
methods fly fishing bait
fishing and plugs we where
successfully on all the
methods however, we did
hook more fish on plugs.
The river is in good shape
up above for plugging and
bait fishing and the fly
fishing will improve as
the flows drop and the
river gets a little
clearer. The weather looks
good for the week some of
the coastal rivers will
drop in to shape for the
first time this year if
the weather holds. I will
let you know as soon as
the Eel becomes fishable
the lower Trinity should
be back in to later in the
week. Thanks Tim King

Current Report:
The
fishing remains good on
the Trinity river for
steelhead in between
storms. The river is out
today below Douglas city
and may go out all the way
up to Lewiston if the rain
continues overnight. It
looks like things are
going to dry up next week
with good weather in the
forecast for the week. The
Smith has been fishing
good before this latest
storm and it should be
really good as soon as it
drops a bit. The Eel is
way out and wont be back
in anytime soon. Over on
the Oregon side the Chetco
is out also. We will be
out fishing as soon as the
rivers drop b back in to
shape. Thanks Tim King

Happy New Year!
I would
like to begin the 2004 new
year by thanking all of my
clients and avid readers
of my online fishing
report for being loyal
clients and friends!
We had a GREAT 2003
fishing season as those
who fished with me can
attest. This year we
christened my new 22 foot
Willie Raptor on the
Klamath River during a
GREAT SALMON SEASON!
If you would like to see
just how well we did in
2003 follow the
2003 fishing report
archive link here or
at the top of the page to
find out for yourself.
We are looking forward to
another great year of
fishing in 2004! I'm
taking reservations right
now for the rest of the
year. So, if you
want to make sure to get
the dates you want I would
book those dates now!
Remember, Prime Steelhead
fishing January thru March
on the Eel and Trinity
Rivers, Striped Bass on
the Sacramento River April
& May, Salmon on the
Trinity and Klamath Rivers
June thru November.
Now here's
the low down for the next
couple of days. The Smith
and the Trinity fished
good for today we are
expecting another storm to
hit late this evening and
with all the snow on the
ground the Trinity river
could blow out fast. It
will depend on whether it
rains or snows for the
Trinity The Smith will
probable be ok for
tomorrow but more wet
weather is forecast for
Friday and Saturday. You
can check out Seiad Valley
guide service with Wally
Johnson or John Klars
Guide service for some
Smith river information
they are good guides and
have accurate reports. We
are going to be fishing
over on the Eel river
during February and March
we will have a few boats
available Murray Wolf and
Steve Peterson are both
excellent guides if you
are interested in fishing
this fantastic fishery for
steelhead now is the time
to call my dates are
filling up fast. Thanks
Tim
