Date:
Wednesday January 26, 2005 at 05:00 PM The fishing on the Trinity river is pretty good. We fished the upper river today and landed 4 nice steelhead to about 8 lbs. We also lost 2 others that didn't make it to the boat. We have been tossing roe with a jaw breaker Fish Pill to get them to bite along with pulling plugs along the Willows. It rained pretty good last night in the Weaverville area .With the warm temperatures the river was on the rise all day. The Lower sections below the south fork are blown out. The river conditions from there back to the Douglas city area are really good .The river has a nice shade of green to it but it is running a little high. The conditions from Lewiston to Rush Creek is clear and would be a good bet if you are fly fishing in the next few days. Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday Sunday Monday January 22,23,24, 2005
at 10:00 PM Our scores on the Trinity have varied over the last few days. On Saturday we fished the Junction city area. I am sure we broke some kind of world record for the number of bait rigs we lost . This area is pretty popular being so close to Redding and the boat traffic was very high over the weekend. We hooked 1 fish . On Sunday I decided to try the high dirty water of the lower river down below the south fork to get away from some of the boat traffic on the upper river. Its was a fun day and we had the whole river to ourselves . With so much color in the water we where able to boondoggle or drag bait . We where like an ant tossing a small piece of roe on a football field . You just gotta love it. We landed 3 nice steelhead one was a downer hatchery fish . On Monday we had Fly guys. Back to the upper river as high as we can go. The Guys had a real good time Sunday night seems they met some of our local talent at the Diggings and stayed out till four am in the morning. When I showed up at 6;30 they where in no shape to fish. After a 5 gallon bucket of coffee and a trip to the donut shop we hit the river at 9:00 am . Amazingly we had a pretty good day. Landing 3 of the 4 steelhead we hooked. Now they had an excuse to smell fishy. I am taking a day off on Tuesday we will be back fishing on Wednesday . The weather forecast is calling for rain with very warm temperatures this will help the Smith and blow out the lower Trinity and the Eel Thanks Tim King.

Thursday and Friday January 20, 21 2005 at 05:00 PM The Trinity is still fishing pretty good. On Thursday we struggled a little bit only getting a few fish .Today the fishing was better for us. We hooked 4 and landed 3 nice steelhead . The upper Trinity river below Weaver creek is running at a real nice level and has some good color to it. Its green and good all the way to the south fork where the river is still blown out due to the warm temperatures causing more snow melt. New fish are moving up daily as they leave the Klamath and head up the Trinity. The fishing pressure is high and will be really crowded over the weekend. Try fishing down lower below the north fork to lose the crowds or fish the south fork up high in Hyampon or Hayfork creek. The weather has been great as you can see I have been rowing in a tee shirt normally unheard of for January. Thanks Tim King

Wednesday January 19, 2005 at 06:00 PM The fishing is picking up on the Trinity. We hooked 5 and landed 4 today. The river is still rising from the warm weather that we have had the last few days. The south fork is pretty dirty from all the snow run off putting a lot of color into the lower river. Thanks Tim King

Tuesday January 18, 2005 at 05:00 AM Most of the coastal rivers are back on the rise. The warm temperatures have started to melt the snow at the higher elevations greening up and blowing out some of the rivers . The Smith is back in with good numbers of fish landed today the average was over 3 or 4 fish per boat. The Chetco is green also with some nice fish being caught. We will be on the Trinity for the rest of the week. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday January 17, 2004 at 05:00 AM The Smith is low and clear .The fishing has been tough on the Smith the last few days, and will remain so until some significant rain comes it. We hooked 2 fish and landed one on Sunday. It was a nice 10 pound wild hen. Matt was what we call a virgin he had never landed a steelhead before. It was nice to welcome another sportsman to the Smith with their first steelhead. At the boat ramp the scores were really low. At the time when we took out there had been 9 fish caught for 38 anglers at Ruby. The best fishing right now is north on the Chetco or farther south in California. The Mad south fork of the Eel or the Trinity and lower Klamath are all in prime shape now for steelhead . Thanks Tim King
Date: Saturday January 15, 2005 at 09:00 PM A tough day fly fishing on the Trinity river. We fished up high today trying to avoid some of the pressure from all the boats in the Junction city area. There was about 5 boats on our run and we were the second boat running the drift. We just could not by a bite today .We tried every fly in my box and in there's and nothing seemed to work. I finally pushed down to be the first boat for the second half of the day and we managed to land one nice German brown. On to the Smith tomorrow. The conditions there are low and clear and we badly need some rain. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday January 14, 2004 at 05:00 PM A little better bite today on the upper Trinity river. We pulled plugs and tossed bugs and bait to get our fish. We hooked 7 and landed 4. The biggest about 8 lbs. Some light rain is in the forecast but not enough to do any damage on the Trinity or help out the Smith from its low and clear conditions. We will be back over on the Smith on Sunday and we will be looking to swing over to the Eel if the weather holds later in the week. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday January 13, 2005 at 08:00 PM A very cold day on the upper Trinity river. The temperature was in the low thirties and never really climbed up much . We fly fished in the traditional methods swinging flies in the riffles and slots and high sticking the pocket water for steelhead and German browns. It was a very fun day on the water. Bill landed his first steelhead on a fly. He was swinging a small copper john through a tail out when the big buck hit. It was around 9 lbs. The weather looks good for a few more days and the river should be in great shape. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday January 12, 2004 at 07:00 PM The fishing was ok on the Trinity river for us today .We hooked 5 and landed 3 nice steelhead the biggest about 9 lbs. The river is in great shape from the top to the bottom. We will be fly fishing for the next few days on the Trinity. I really enjoy fishing different rivers and the different disciplines of fishing it makes you a better fisherman over all. The lower Klamath is in good shape we stopped by on our way over from the smith and there where 3 jets out on the river chasing steelies no doubt. The Mad was muddy but should clear soon with this nice weather that we are having. Get out and go fishing. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday January 10, 2005 at 08:00 PM The Smith is dropping fast as of Monday night and is still at a great level for fishing. There are a few showers in the forecast to hopefully keep it at the optimum level for fishing. The fishing has been awesome this year and we still have a long way to go. The Trinity is fishing great also we spoke with Dennis today and he says the fly fishing and bait fishing has been good we will be on the water from Wednesday through Saturday Then back to the Smith. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday January 9, 2004 at 09:00 PM The fishing is really good on the Smith river. The recent rains have brought the river up to optimum levels and the color is a beautiful shade of green. Guided boats are landing any where from 2 to 10 fish per trip. The number of fish hooked depends on the skill of the anglers in the boat and the guide to put them on the fish at the right time. The weather has been great with just enough rain to keep things going mixed in with a little hail. We will be fishing on the Trinity for the next few days the steelhead run has really started to pick up on the sections above the north fork. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday January 6, 2005 at 08:00 PM We had a great plan today. On some days we do double drifts on the smith. Today I had planned to start low and avoid some of the fishing pressure of all the boats launching at the same time at the forks . We launched at the outhouse with only two other boats I just knew we would hammer them on all the lower holes. We had a couple of bites but we never touched a fish on our first run. So much for my plan we where humbled by the Smith. On our second run from the forks down we hooked two and landed one around 14 pounds. The weather is great it rained most of the day which we really need and more is in the forecast. The river rose about half a foot as we fished today and we would like to see it up around 10 feet on the Jed Smith gauge. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday January 6, 2005 at 08:00 PM The river is low and clear making for some spooky fish. If your in the right place with the right offering quite a few fish are still being caught. Rain is on the way which will really improve the conditions over the weekend. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday January 4, 2004 at 05:00 PM The Bite seemed a little tougher today. The day started out great we had our first fish in the boat by 7:30 in the morning. Then things got tough we worked hard for the fish we got today bites were few and far between. We ended up hooking 3 nice steelhead and landing two of them both wild fish we kept one for the table and released one to continue its journey up river . The river is getting low and clear but with rain forecast for Wednesday night. The fishing should pick right back up. For this early in the run the fishing has really been pretty good with 8 fish landed over 20 pounds already. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday January 3, 2004 at 05:00 PM The fishing was good today on the Smith. The river still has a slight shade of green and the boat pressure was a little lighter today. We ended up hooking 5 nice steelhead and landing 3. They ranged in size from 9 to 14 pounds. One was a hatchery Buck 2 where wild hens that we released. At the take out we got word that a nice 23 pound hatchery buck that was caught by a lucky angler. The weather is really cold in the mornings it has been around 35 degrees then has been heating up to around 48. The weather looks good for the coming week. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday January 2, 2004 at 07:00 PM We has some really great guys on board today.11 year old Shawn was on his first steelhead trip with his dad. They wanted to learn how to fish the Smith from a boat and from the bank. Shawn hooked a nice fish right at the put in just above the forks but when dad tried to help the fish broke off. Shawn was able to hook one more but we never got it to the boat before it spit the hook. This was a really great trip we new it wasn't going to be about the numbers of fish hooked or landed but just letting a kid see what a beautiful place this is and teaching him the right way to fish. And about catching and releasing some of the bigger fish to let future generation enjoy the fight. Dad had a pretty good day to. The river is in perfect shape and the weather is clear and very cold. Thanks Tim King
Date: Friday December 31, 2004 at 08:00 PM The fishing was good today on the Smith. Most boats had a shot at a good number of steelhead. I talked to Alan Bourgess tonight who said they went 3 for 4. Alan has one of the new Willie diamondizers also. Make sure you check out our boats when you see us on the river Alan's is a dark blue. It has been raining most of the day. The Smith is at a perfect height and has a nice green color. The forecast is for more rain through Saturday. Thanks Tim King
Date: Thursday December 30, 2004 at 07:00 PM Rain wind and a rising river made for a little tougher fishing conditions today. We had some first time steelhead fisherman in our boats today and they got the royal treatment. Cold weather mixed with rain and blowing wind they loved it. They all also landed there first steelhead we ended up with 2 in my boat and Mark Wakeman rowing the second boat ended up with 2 with one silver salmon. The river has come up a little and is now in great shape with the forecast calling for a few showers it should stabilize a little and the fishing should pick up. The river really has a lot of fish in it with all the boats that are fishing it everybody is catching a few. Thanks Tim King
Date: Wednesday December 29, 2004 at 04:30 PM Another decent day on the Smith. Despite the clear conditions and the heavy boat pressure the fish seem to be on the bite if your in the right place at the right time. All the fish that we have been catching have been pretty close in size from 9 to 14 pounds. The big storm should be moving in tonight bringing rain and wind with it. Hopefully the river will get some color to it and come up a few feet. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday December 28, 2004 at 04:30 PM The fishing on the Smith continues to be good. The river is pretty clear making for some spooky fish. We had a nice day landing 3 of the 5 fish we hooked . We kept a nice hatchery hen and released the rest . We have another storm forecast to hit on Thursday this should help keep things going. Over on the Trinity the reports are good from the lower river that the winter fish have started to arrive more fish will be moving in on all the rivers well in to March. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday December 27, 2004 at 08:00 PM The fishing was good today on the Smith. Most boats had a shot at a good number of steelhead and landing them was the biggest challenge. It was raining most of the day which should help keep the river in good shape for tomorrow. The forecast calls for more rain on Thursday. Over on the Trinity the fishing is starting to pick up. The wet weather has turned the bite on and the fishing pressure is very light. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday December 26, 2004 at 06:00 PM The Smith came up about a foot and a half last night just enough to make today's fishing a little better for the guys that went out today. The river should fish good all week with light rain in the forecast for almost everyday . The Trinity is getting pounded by a big snow storm .The river is in good shape and should stay that way as long as it continues to snow and not rain. We should really start to see some increase in the numbers of fish on the coastal rivers. The combination of rain and cold weather will start the steelhead on their runs. Thanks Tim King
Date: Tuesday December 21, 2004 at 07:00 PM This will be our last report until after Christmas. The Smith is low and clear and has had only a few boats out each day. A few of the guides are catching some nice steelhead on side drifted roe. The Trinity has not seen any new push of fresh fish since the last big rain storm. The river is also low and clear above the south fork and is clear below it but running at a decent flow. The fly fishing is decent and bait fishing is pretty tough. The fish are really spooky when it is this clear. Be sure and use your fluorocarbon leaders and down size your bait or flies in these conditions. The main stem of the Eel river is in and has a few early run steelies in it fish down low. The weather man is forecasting rain on Christmas day. Fishing should be great after our next storm. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks Tim King
Date: Monday December 20, 2004 at 07:00 AM Here's a picture of our new 17' X 54" Willie Diamondizer Drift Boat. It's loaded with all the options you would expect and we have also set it up for fly fishing with casting braces and level diamond plate floors front and rear. If your looking for our past fishing reports click on the fishing reports archive at the top of the page. Thanks Tim King
Date: Sunday December 19, 2004 at 07:00 PM We have been fishing over on the Trinity the last few days. The upper river above the south fork is gin clear below that the river still has a little bit of color to it. The fishing was pretty slow we fished both areas and only landed 3 steelhead. There is a lot of boat traffic and bank fisherman on the upper sections. The Smith has been giving up a few steelhead over the last few days for boaters and for plunkers. When we crossed over the Mad river on our way back to the Smith believe it or not in was pretty green. We also heard that the Van Dussen was in and seeing some decent numbers of early steelhead. Thanks Tim King |
